"When you are having a stroke, every minute matters,” explained Sanford Fire Department Lieutenant Greg McGann. "Because I received the care I needed quickly, I was back to normal activities and cleared to return to work within a month. I was fortunate my stroke happened where it did, but I know my colleagues would respond the same for anyone else as they did for me." A normal evening at the Sanford, Florida fire station for 57-year-old Lt. McGann took an unexpected turn when he began to experience slurred speech, vision impairment, and loss of movement on the left side of his body before collapsing. His crew members immediately recognized the signs of a stroke and transferred him to HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital, a Comprehensive Stroke Center. Within minutes, Lt. McGann received life-saving treatment and, because of the rapid response, he was back at work less than one month later. Following Lt. McGann’s recovery, HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital colleagues and physicians reunited with Lt. McGann and the Sanford Fire Department crew that was on shift that day. In recognition of their swift action that saved Lt. McGann’s life, each member of the Sanford Fire Department was presented with the hospital’s LifeSaver Award. “The fast response of his crew in recognizing the symptoms and transporting him immediately to a hospital with advanced stroke treatment capabilities resulted in an excellent outcome,” shared Dr. Ajeet S. Sodhi, interventional neurologist with HCA Florida Healthcare and Lt. McGann’s treating physician. Today, Lt. McGann is grateful for the expert stroke care he received. “When I go on calls, I confidently bring patients to HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital, and I know my colleagues brought me to the best place to receive the treatment I needed.” To learn more about the life-saving stroke care Lt. It's such an easy thing to take for granted = Hospital staff doing their jobs... But it really can mean the world to the patient and their family's lives. So glad that Lieutenant Greg McGann got the care he needed and is spreading the good word to save other people's lives and keep a family together for longer.

Wow, great job everyone!
