What does ‘hospital grade pump' mean? Hospital grade pumps are designed to be used frequently and are highly efficient. They are often used in hospitals by women who have small or premature babies who are not feeding at all, so they need to be very effective at removing milk from the breast. Hospital grade pumps can be used to help mums establish their milk supply or increase their supply. A hospital grade pump has a super strong motor, designed to be used frequently (several times per day) and they tend to be more durable. They use a closed circuit for milk collection meaning milk and other liquids can't get back into the motor unit. In a hospital setting mother's will often share the motor and have their own milk collection kit. A number of boxes need to be checked before a patient is able to participate. Are they well enough to be treated at home? Do they live in a stable home? Do they live with a caretaker?” ... https://lnkd.in/eHVAQnir Please pray for the women in Florida because the state legislatures have allowed a private equity company to change obstetrical practice by allowing C-Sections outside of a hospital. I trust the integrity of KFF, so I know what they wrote was true. Over the past decade, there has been a substantial increase in private equity investment in OB-GYN practices across the United States, particularly since 2017. According to a 2020 study published in JAMA Internal Medicine, from 2017 to 2019, the number of private equity affiliations in OB-GYN clinics more than doubled compared to the previous seven years. These firms have rapidly acquired numerous OB-GYN practice groups, significantly transforming the landscape of women's healthcare to expose our patients to undue and unnecessary harm. This trend raises critical concerns about patient safety and the quality of care. Private equity firms, driven by profit motives, often prioritize financial returns over patient well-being. This pressure can lead to a focus on more lucrative elective procedures, potentially increasing patient costs and compromising the quality of care. These concerns include Florida's recently controversial law, heavily lobbied by private equity-owned groups like Women's Care Enterprises. These centers claim to reduce costs and provide a home-like environment for childbirth but pose significant risks.   Critics, including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, argue that performing C-sections outside of hospitals increases risks for mothers and babies due to potential complications requiring immediate hospital care. Although the law mandates that these centers have agreements with hospitals for emergency transfers and adhere to high staffing and infection control standards, health experts remain concerned about the quality and safety of care compared to traditional hospital settings.   Some see this shift towards advanced birth centers as a way to cut healthcare costs. However, the emphasis on profit, particularly by private equity firms, raises alarms about the potential increase in risks for mothers and newborns. Unlike outpatient surgical centers that perform elective procedures, having a baby is not an elective procedure. And let's not forget the deaths of the late Joan Rivers and Kanye West's mother, who both died from complications at an outpatient surgical center. The rapid influx of private equity investment in OB-GYN practices and the new Florida law allowing C-sections outside hospitals highlights the growing tension between cost reduction, patient safety, and the quality of care in women's health. I hope that my ob-gyn colleagues will speak boldly, fearlessly, and loudly to raise awareness about this law.
