This theme combines several key aspects of the current experience in healthcare and in particular the Latino healthcare experience. 🇨🇦 Learn about surgical care services in Indigenous communities! 🌏 In the course SURG 518: Surgical Care in Canada’s Rural and Remote Indigenous Communities with Global Comparisons students will critically examine the historical and current state of surgical care services to Indigenous communities. By drawing on Indigenous voices, participants will delve into the challenges and opportunities faced by clinicians and service delivery systems in both Canada and globally. This course is designed for students to foster a deep understanding of the complexities surrounding surgical care. The course will be instructed by four brilliant professors: Dr. Nadine Caron, Dr. Jessica Chan, Dr. Ryan Falk, and Dr. Melanie Morris. By the end of this course, students will have a greater understanding of the integration of surgical care delivery in high-income countries, learn about unique social circumstances influencing healthcare for Indigenous individuals in remote communities, and more! The awards of five NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) HRCs within the north of England is testament to the excellence at scale that exists across the NHSA Northern Health Science Alliance Ltd. It also reflects well on NIHR's willingness to back that excellence. We have seen similar good news on this front with recent increases in funding to our CRFs and to the BRCs. These moves are very welcome. They will make a significant difference to the ability of our institutions to drive growth in the sort of translational and clinical research that drives economic growth, attracts industry investment and creates jobs. It is also a sound investment decision on the part of funders as it is increasingly clear that the north delivers because it has a vibrant clinical research environment: we have the three top recruiting NHS Trusts (The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust) in the country; NIHR CRN North West Coast and NIHR CRN NENC leading the way on post-pandemic delivery of industry trials to time and target; and the Northern Alliance Advanced Therapies Treatment Centre and iMATCH blazing a trail on advanced therapies and a plethora of other examples. The recent news that the Clinical Research Network Coordinating Centre contract is staying with University of Leeds is also evidence of the national leadership that can be delivered from northern institutions and of the value that can be leveraged by basing initiatives in the north. There are many other areas of R&D and in support of the Life Sciences sector on which the north should and should be leading nationally. The take-home message - If it can be done in the north then it should be done in the north. This matters to us. These are the sorts of investments that will help transform the economy of the north. They will be built upon and amplified by our anchor institutions and with private sector funding. They will bring innovative companies and jobs to the north and they will nurture companies that originate here. The health and life sciences sector is a major strategic opportunity for growth in the UK. Public sector investment is required to catalyse economic growth and ultimately redress the balance of opportunities and health inequalities that are endemic in the UK. Credit to NIHR for leading the way. We now need other arms length bodies and government departments to step up as well. The increasingly clear message is that the north delivers. Hello all! I hope you have all had a productive and inspiring week thus far. As the tradition continues, welcome to another week in review! We continued collaboration with Hartlepool & Stockton Health in our endeavour to support local practices as we get through difficult times in the NHS. 1.⁠ ⁠I did a lecture at my alma mater UCL! I spoke about one of my greatest passions, primary care innovation and its scope in GPland.  2.⁠ Alongside my lecture, I ⁠made a video with fellow professionals as part of the UCL MBA alumni series with the help of Blessing Adedoyin, MBA. I loved doing an MBA, as it made me an economically and financially astute doctor, something I never trained to be in Medical School. To all those considering it, just leap! You won’t regret it. I had lots of fun at the new building - met up with fellow alumni and the new cohorts, and even had a camera following me everywhere - had my taste of Hollywood fame! 3.⁠ ⁠Met up with Elliot Finney to discuss primary care recruitment concerns - the greatest being the role of allied healthcare staff, and whether organisations are overestimating them, putting them outside their competency and putting the livelihoods of GPs at risk. 4.⁠ ⁠Had an engaging chat with Ben Allen, a fellow GP partner, who has been working with ICB in the past, it was great to share ideas on improving Primary Care practice. The significance and importance of great managers and the culture they promote at a GP practice are not spoken of enough. I would like to prompt all healthcare leaders, aspiring or established, to consider the culture and ethos they encourage at their institutions. Some great Elm Tree Medical Centre news - the trainees who were recently with us passed their GP exams! From all of us at Elm Tree, we are so proud of you all and excited to see where you take primary care! We also had a practice partners meeting, where we set goals for next year. Setting goals is the most important thing you can do for yourself and your practice, as it encourages drive and self-reflection. How was your week? The integration of #AI models into these services is expanding the possibilities for #preventative healthcare, enabling #earlydiagnosis and individualised #careplans. These technologies allow for continuous monitoring and data analysis, improving outcomes and enhancing the quality of life for older adults. Floro, Hanna and I will have the unique opportunity to meet with Elisa 's Jana Pullinen to better grasp our understanding and the enormous potential of digital care. Since 1999, Elisa has been spearheading this transformation, so there is a great deal of knowledge and experience to be gained by #qsna winners.

🌟 Exciting Developments in Healthcare Collaboration! 🌟   Co-Chair of the ABCP Youth Committee Dr Wen Wang led the Future Healthcare CPD Day alongside esteemed colleagues - Dr Mark McCarthy, Dr Jennifer Creese, Prof Maria Karanika-Murray, and Prof Kevin Harris 🤝   On 30th November 2023, 60 NHS doctors and 3 researchers from ABCP members (representing 3 different Universities) came together at Brookfield House to showcase their ongoing NHS-related research projects. A special shoutout to ABCP members, Dr Fei He, Dr Jingjing Deng, Professor Huiyu Zhou, whose talks have been invaluable. 🚀   Highlights: 👉 90% of trainee doctors would recommend this event to their peers! 👉 79% expressed interest in attending future events. 👉 Over 70% believed their knowledge and collaboration skills with researchers have been improved to a satisfactory level or above   The feedback has been incredible! "Brilliant event! Need more of these!" 🙌   Our ABCP members made a difference by sharing their research projects to support the NHS.
