🎙️It's time for studios to adapt to the changing needs of audiences. Mass-produced big-budget movies are passé, especially if they lack authenticity. People want to be entertained but also want to connect with what they’re watching. Big-budget films are still viable, but they need to have good stories that resonate with viewers. Studios are competing with people's time. What is more enticing: two hours of scrolling on TikTok with authentic, genuine content (yup, that’s me), or spending time and money (on tickets, parking, snacks) to go to the theater? A long list can easily be generated. There is little wonder why revenues at TVNZ are falling, it's not just the downturn, move to online, it's the overt bias that disconnects the middle ground of viewers. News and Current affairs are supposed to be balanced and factual, a return to this position may actually attract viewers looking for unbiased informative material, so they can form their own judgments. There is a market for this middle ground amongst the noise of the internet. Sports TV is all the same. Capture the action, show the score, go to break. Cover the game and the viewers will come…right? Wrong. Yes…the die hard fans will always tune in. Your grandma who hasn’t missed a game in 50 years will still watch. I’m talking about hooking the casual fan. What makes them watch? In a word…story. Everyone loves a good story. People are searching for something that makes them feel…anything. That’s what a great tv production crew does. They find the story, and edit it live. It’s hard. Really hard. Years of practice make it look easy. The Producer, Director and TD all need to work in perfect sync to pull this off…to make a game really great. Tomorrow I’ll share the 3 things a sports TD can do to enhance the feel of a sports broadcast. #controlroom #broadcast
