It is hard to believe that the PAN Foundation launched FundFinder more than five years ago, and it’s more vital than ever.    FundFinder has been such a powerful, impactful way to make a real difference in the lives of patients, because we never want people making unfortunate decisions around having to split pills in half or choose between food on the table and taking medicines. Through an easy-to-use web app, all in one place, one can explore more than 200 patient assistance programs and hundreds of patient advocacy groups. This is critical. After all, it is really hard to keep track of which organizations provide what assistance programs, and more importantly, which assistance programs are open or closed. In a 2022 survey conducted by the American Medical Association 93% of physicians reported experiencing delays in care while awaiting a prior authorization. 82% reported patients abandoning treatment due to struggles with insurance and prior authorization. Unpredictably, medications and procedures may require a prior authorization with no clear reasoning. Ultimately, the prior authorization process serves insurance companies as it saves them money as patient care is delayed potentially indefinitely. Prior authorizations were originally designed for novel and expensive procedures & medications.This is drastically different than how they are used today. 10% of US Physicians Work for or Under UnitedHealth. Is That a Problem? A resounding answer is yes, this should be a strong concern. UHC in its continued unheard revenue and profit achievements and the magnitude of impact upon the provider community with the Change debacle, continued growth of UHC and Optum must be closely monitored and halted. Every company deserves to earn a profit, whether designated as for-profit or non-profit, the tactics and business practices of UHC and Optum are clearly at odds with and defy generally accepted and reasonable practices of business. Alternative funding plans should not exist. They offer lower insurance prices for employers because they simply cut out the most expensive patients and medications. Then they turn around and apply for assistance because they are not "insured" for that specific disease and drug. Patient assistance programs, whether done through a drug manufacturer or a charitable organization, do not exist to save companies a few bucks. The whole point of insurance is that risk is spread out among a large group, you don't just get to cut out the least healthy patients. Not to mention the costs borne by the healthcare system, because we, not the insurance company, are the ones often forced to help patients find and apply for coverage for their medications. #healthinsurance https://lnkd.in/eJM7veGm
