Awareness Weeks: More than a moment, a time to sow seeds. As we come to the end of a big week here in Aotearoa - Chinese Language Week and Mental Health Awareness Week - I have found myself in a few discussions about whether specific Awareness Weeks are truly relevant. After all, people speak Chinese all year round, and mental health struggles are ongoing; neither occurs just one week each year. And I agree, these issues do deserve attention every day of the year. However, I am steadfast that dedicated weeks, or single days, still play a very crucial role. Here’s why....... 1. Awareness weeks are not about condensing any group's experiences into a few days. They are about amplifying voices and creating a spotlight. These moments encourage conversation, education, and empathy across larger audiences that may not engage otherwise. I see this happen before, during and after every event we promote and support. 2. Awareness weeks help create momentum and serve as springboards for further action. When we pause to learn and reflect, we're more likely to integrate those learnings into daily life and policies. These events often serve as people's first introduction to a certain topic, allowing them to explore new ideas and ask questions they may not have felt comfortable asking elsewhere. Let's use these dedicated weeks not as some sort of one-hit-wonder event but as a starting point - a time to plant some seeds. While the real work continues to happen outside these designated weeks, they’re an important catalyst. They fuel our commitment to inclusivity, well-being, and cultural understanding every day. #DiversityAndInclusion #MentalHealthMatters #ChineseLanguageWeek #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek #Inclusion #DEI #MHAW

Surgical treatment of chronic pain & spasticity using my passion for neuromodulation to help more patients achieve substantial pain relief & better quality of life
🔹From Vancouver back to Cologne! 🔹Attending St. Georges Cologne Youth TEDx 🔹Great talks, fascinating young women & men! Truly inspiring insights! 🔹My favorite talk 👉🏼 “Lifting the language veil“ - Challenges posed by communication breakdowns 🔹“With linguistic barriers touching the very core of our society’s values & bringing with them profound impacts on mental health, dignity & productivity, it becomes clear that we have a responsibility to act. Whether you are a manager, an educator, a parent, a student – anyone in fact, treating those struggling to communicate with kindness, rather than frustration & prejudice can mean a world of difference to them, making a difficult time in their lives easier & smoothening their transition into a new environment.“ 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eQK9Giz3

Helping Mental Health Professionals Build Confidence in English | Connect with more clients, excel in a new role & share your expertise with a wider audience✨| Neurolanguage Coach® | Business English #MyEnglishTherapy
“I don’t know if I'd feel comfortable telling my clients I offer them 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵…” 🤔 I had a really interesting conversation with a new client this week. She’s a bilingual Chinese psychologist, based in China, and we were discussing the various ways to express empathy during a therapy session. She had mentioned she lacked confidence in this area when working in English. We read an example saying she was there to support [the client] during this difficult time -- and she seemed surprised. I was curious to know the reason... She explained that in China you would use the equivalent of that word only with family and close friends, so she wouldn't feel comfortable saying that she "supports" her Chinese clients. I assured her that the English meaning depended on the context, but it could include everything from mental health support to unconditional support from a partner, close friend or family member. ✍️ What does “support” mean to you? Would you like some extra support on your professional English journey in 2024? ⏩ I have just 2 spaces left to begin my 10-week coaching program in January! _______________________________________ 𝘐 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱 𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩 𝘱𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘌𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘩 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘴𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘴 𝘴𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘢𝘺 𝘠𝘌𝘚 𝘵𝘰 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘰𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 🚀 Follow my posts 🔔 | #MyEnglishTherapy #Psicología #MentalHealthMatters #SaludMental #CommunicationSkills

🧠 Mental Health Week (23-29 Sep) & New Zealand Chinese Language Week (22-28 Sep) 🌏 Fresh from Mensa NZ's national gathering in Christchurch, we're highlighting two important events this week. Mental Health Week is a timely reminder to prioritise our wellbeing. It's okay not to be okay, and having open conversations about mental health can make a world of difference. Let's support each other and keep these vital discussions going. We're also celebrating New Zealand Chinese Language Week. It's a brilliant opportunity to explore Chinese culture and language, reflecting the wonderful diversity of our society. Whether you're just starting with a simple "nĭ hăo" or diving deeper into Mandarin or Cantonese, every step towards understanding brings us closer together. What languages are you keen to learn? Remember, every new word is a step towards better cultural understanding and connection. #MentalHealthWeek #NZCLW2024 #HealthyMind #CulturalUnderstanding

Motivational Speaker | World Champion Hula Hooper | Sharing Resilience and Mindset Strategies Unleash Your Greatness
𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬: 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐁𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐮𝐥𝐚 𝐇𝐨𝐨𝐩𝐬 Today, I'm peeling back the layers to share the driving force behind breaking the Guinness World Record for hula hooping 100 hours – a journey that goes beyond physical endurance and into the depths of my personal story. 4 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐀𝐠𝐨: 𝐀 𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐲 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 Breaking this record wasn't just a physical feat; it was a triumph over the struggles with mental health throughout my life. Four years ago, I achieved something extraordinary, but I knew there was a deeper story waiting to be shared. 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫 Fast forward to November, where I embarked on a 3-day bootcamp with the Speakers Institute. Initially, I signed up with the expectation of honing my public speaking skills, little did I know that the experience would become a transformative journey. 𝐇𝐮𝐥𝐚 𝐇𝐨𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥: 𝐀 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 On the final day of the bootcamp, I took a leap of faith and shared my story: "Hula Hooping to Heal." This narrative is deeply personal and tied to my struggles, victories, and the importance of reconciling my past. It was a challenging but liberating experience to be vulnerable in front of a large audience. 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐒𝐚𝐦 𝐂𝐚𝐰𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐧: 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐃𝐮𝐭𝐲 During this process, I drew inspiration from Sam Cawthorn, the founder of Speakers Institute. He reminded me that our stories are not ours to keep; they are a gift we must share to inspire and teach others. 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 I am grateful for this journey, the support of the Speakers Institute, and the incredible audience that embraced my story. It was a privilege to be immersed in an encouraging and inspiring space where each person opened up and shared their unique and powerful stories. #HulaHoopingToHeal #HulaHooping #SpeakersInstitute #MentalHealth #Depression #Vulnerability #Storytelling #BreakTheStigma #guinnessworldrecords
