🚨 New CST paper - School trusts as civic institutions 🚨 School trusts exist to provide education - but as charities they also have a wider civic role. Today, many schools exist as the last civic institution in their communities. This report, produced in association with Browne Jacobson explores how trusts are working with pupils, parents, public services, charities, and businesses to help pupils do better on both sides of the school gates. In a class offered by the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy students gain real-world experience by giving away $10,000 in grant funding. In the hands-on course “Learning by Giving”, students learn and implement the process of making charitable grants and giving wisely, from deciding which community issues to address and writing requests for grant proposals to conducting site visits at nonprofits, evaluating applications, and deciding where to award real money. Taking on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks to raise funds for Magic Breakfast On the 18th of May, en enthusiastic and slightly mad group of Magic Breakfast colleagues and I will be taking on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge! Magic Breakfast works exists to ensure that every child in the UK can make the most of their education without being distracted by hunger. Every school day, as many one in every five children is arriving at school on an empty stomach, and we're on a mission to stop that. We know the impact that a Magic Breakfast can have, so we've decided to go the 'extra mile' (or 24.5 to be precise) to raise funds for children who are at risk of morning hunger. On 18th May, we'll be getting up bright and early (come rain or shine - and let's face it, the North of England isn't known for its balmy weather!) to take on Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, better known as the Yorkshire Three Peaks. We've been warned that we'll need to be on our feet for 12 hours, during which time we'll be ascending over 5,000 ft. We're all training hard in preparation, but some moral support and sponsorship could really give us a boost as we await the big day! We know it will be tough, but one thing we won't need to worry about is keeping fuelled up. Sadly, that isn't the case for the young people Magic Breakfast supports. Having breakfast at school has a hugely positive impact on a young person's education. For pupils in disadvantaged communities, a decent breakfast has been proven to positively impact their education, concentration, focus and behaviour. Just 28p can give a can give a child a nutritious breakfast as well as wrap-around support. If we reach our target, we could fund a whopping 5,357 breakfasts! We would be so grateful if you can donate what you can. Here is the link to our fundraising page: https://lnkd.in/edU_gwfp

It's officially "back to school" season! 📚✏️ The Dana Carmel Group is kicking off the new school year by donating $20,000 to the Menlo Park City School District and Menlo Atherton High School to support my children’s schools and our local community. I am a long-time, active Foundation member, and I know how much our school districts rely on Foundation support to provide quality education. Funds raised provide additional teachers, specialists, programs, and tools that make our schools extraordinary places for learning. That’s why we will donate $1,500 to your local school Foundation when you buy or sell a home with The Dana Carmel Group. This benefits both home values and school districts. A report by the National Bureau of Economic Research titled, “Using Market Valuation to Assess Public School Spending,” found that for every dollar spent on public schools in a community, home values increased by about $20. This increase directly translates to higher resale values. Send us a message to learn more! 📲 Dana Carmel Group | DRE 02076519

10/12 Why have independent schools been singled out? Universities are private charities providing education but no one is suggesting VAT on tuition, often paid by parents. And what about private tutors and private playgroups? It is easy to conclude that VAT on independent school fees is more based on pre-conceived notions of sector elitism, rather than a real understanding of the sector.
