A product manager can solve many problems. Product/market fit is not one of them. 0-1 product talent does not exist. Founders, this is you. It's your (only) job to find product/market fit. There needs to be as little abstraction between the person selling to customers and the people who are prioritizing what to build / doing the shipping. The loop needs to be tight, without intermediaries. Don't get me wrong: you still need some solid product management skillset to find product/market fit. I just believe that in the earliest stages, it should be the founders' responsibility. The same way you don't need a VP sales before you proved that founding sales works, you shouldn’t hire a product manager before you proved that founding product works. If you’re not a product person, it’s time to roll up your sleeves and learn the craft. Good news is it’s not that hard as long as you’re passionate about the problem you’re solving for customers.

** Immediately reject hiring a #ProductManager who is not willing to take commercializing targets ** READ ON - The Product Manager may fail doing it but needs to know that #commercialization for first 1 year falls under him/her - Acceptability in the system, getting the first deals out, listening to prospects, streamling the platform for scale all falls under purview of product manager - Researching, writing product / SOP, getting internal & external stakeholders buy in all are very important but so is the first year of #commercialisation. - Product Manager is not really all #deskjob in my opinion.

In the life of a product manager, there's a familiar scenario that plays out all too often 👇 Our colleagues in sales come to us with a spark in their eyes, enthusiastically claiming they’ve found the one feature that will catapult our sales to stratospheric heights. While we deeply value the frontline insights sales teams bring, these moments can sometimes feel overwhelming—sometimes to the point where you feel like just throwing their feedback in the trash. Here’s the thing: as product managers, our role is to sift through these requests, balancing immediate sales boosts with long-term product vision and integrity. Yes, there are days when the flood of feature requests can be exhausting. But here’s how I like to handle it: 👉 Listen Actively: Every piece of feedback is a gift, even if it's wrapped in urgency or high expectations. It shows engagement and commitment. 👉Evaluate Strategically: Align these requests with user data and product roadmaps. Not every feature will fit, and that’s okay. 👉Communicate Clearly: Keep the lines open. Explain why certain ideas are picked over others and the reasoning behind product decisions. And if you want a tool that can collect, group and validate feedback in a better way - Version Lens might be something for you. Sound interesting? I Help People in IT Get Promoted 💪 Build Resilience 💭 Influence Teams 🏆 Drive Strategy 🚀 Empower Others
The key to building strong relationships in product is to empower and support people around you. If you’re not adding value to their lives, then there’s little incentive to build and/or maintain a relationship with you. Cold, but true. Professional relationships are important, especially for product managers. Not only do they provide support, insights, opportunities, and a platform for collaboration, but also serve as a basis for influencing the deliverables of teams you need help from to carry out your product’s vision and success. To nurture these relationships: - Strive for trust and respect; be honest and transparent with each other - Remember it’s a two-way street; one-sided relationships are doomed to fail - Keep engaged; don’t be the person that only shows up when they need something From experience, a past coworker of mine had been wanting to transition into a product role for a couple years. But, every time they asked to be reassigned, they were met with rejection. It wasn't until they started making an effort to support other teams around the company (sales, marketing, customer service, etc.), beyond their job description, where they started to gain support and traction towards becoming a fully fledged product manager. Fast forward, they are now serving their team as a Principal Product Manager all because they started to shift their focus from day-to-day tasks towards helping others around them. Add value, and others will return in kind. #productmanagement #productmanagers #value #teamwork #careergrowth #careeradvancement #trust #respect

What is a Product Manager? It's a job that's hard to define. This is because the meaning varies considerably depending on the type of industry. The literal meaning is a person who presents an alternative that can solve practical problems based on the needs of customers. Let's look at some important keywords. 1. Product development capability - Product Feature Definition - Product development materialization and implementation - Quality assurance 2. Ability to identify customer needs - Ability to leverage data and derive results - Trend identification - Ability to create user experience 3. Ability to create sales strategies - Ability to understand market structure - Competitor status analysis - Priceing policy - P&L analysis and implications 4. Ability to manage relationships - Ability to understand the interests of all relavant departments - Leadership 5. Passionate - The ability to work more than others - Data management skills (maintaining data base, regular archiving) In conclusion, to become a successful Product Manager, the courage and will to handle all of this will be highly required. A multi-disciplinary professional & digital navigator - charting new territories while surprising the natives. An expert in Product, Strategy, and Transformation. Enjoys VUCA scenes, and excitement is a key reward.
Just a PSA. I think there is an epidemic (not trend, mind you, the word was deliberately chosen) among recruiters to named every other job as Product Manager/Owner of Something. My favourites so far are (a)Product Manager, Brand Communication (b) Product Manager, Data Analytics (c) Product Manager, Account Receivables and (d) Product Manager, Employee Training & Development If you come across a KPI indicating the creation of Product Management roles to replace other positions, it's worth considering exploring product management opportunities elsewhere. Unchecked, we might see recruitment for Product Lead, Senior Management in the next 12-24 months.

You can't build quality into products. You must start with a quality product then ensure you don't screw it up as you build it. I help minimize your chances of screwing it up.
