#BasedOnActualEvents As far back as she can remember, Andrea Chlebak has been obsessed with art and movement. At a very young age, Andrea painted a still life. When she showed it to her mother, she remarked, “Andrea! You even painted the wind blowing through the curtains.” Even before she was fully conscious of it, Andrea was fascinated by movement, a love that continued throughout her childhood into her early adulthood in the form of dance. Andrea credits her artistic sensibilities to her mother, who started a family bakery, first out of a stall at the farmer's market and later as a freestanding store. It was there that she nurtured her love for dance and design. In many ways, Andrea’s life has followed the narrative arc of a sitcom, complete with wacky characters from the community who were regulars at her family’s store. https://lnkd.in/eegDy3ky

The quantum age has brought about a powerful change in storytelling - the democratization of voices. The days of #blackandwhite history are over, and now we can tell our stories in living technicolor. It's time to raise our voices and celebrate our stories. #representationmatters and every story deserves to be told. Let's come together to celebrate the stories of #blackcowboys, #blackphotographers, #blackhistory and remember that #yallmeansall.

As professionals, we often seek meaning in our work and lives. And recently I had the privilege of visiting an enclave of artists, led by the inspiring Philip Gabriel Steverson, housed in a vibrant teal building. It was a sanctuary of creativity and life stories. Philip's approach to art is deeply rooted in his experiences and philosophies. His studio, a meticulously organized space, is filled with artifacts of his journey. From a binder of found treasures to his mother's annotated bible, each item tells a tale of love, loss, and resilience. What struck me most was Philip's perspective on art and life. For him, creating art transcends the act of painting or sculpting; it's a process of self-discovery and giving back to the community. His experiences, from the brink of homelessness to finding solace in creation, shape his empathetic approach to life and art. Philip's journey is a testament to the power of art as a medium for healing and expression. His story is one of transformation, from struggling to find his place in the world to becoming a beacon of inspiration in the art community. Every time I meet someone like PGS, I get reminded that inspiration is all around me. I just need to open my eyes. #inspirationalleadership #communityimpact ____________________________________ View his portfolio here:https://lnkd.in/gT7DunJQ

My piece “Blue Black” will be on exhibition at the Rosalux Gallery in Minneapolis August 5th-August 27th in the show titled “Holding Up / Holding With -Rethinking Resilience” Opening reception August 5th 7pm-10pm Open hours: Saturdays and Sundays 12-4pm Theme of the show: Resilience! Resilience held an outsized space in our psyche during the past three years. The word itself, with respect to a world situation well outside of personal control, embodies the ideas of strength and grit along with perserverence and health. It also became a fraught word worth questioning. At once bandied as a light inspirational idea, the word became heavily laden with the uneveness and imbalance of circumstance. It’s a word that conjures the image of pulling oneself up by their bootstraps, in perserverance, but could resilience reside in giving up or letting go? Perhaps resilience is embodied in less defined terms in the space between one way of being and another. About Blue Black: This piece is called “Blue Black”. It’s inspired by black people who are very dark in complexion almost looking ‘blue’. I took it literally by painting her in blue hues. She is reminiscent of the ‘Jim Crow’ era caricatures. The background is a collage of images and quotes that resonated with me. A few quotes are from Claudia Ranke’s book ‘Just Us’ and quotes from black women from an issue of Essence magazine. Her hair is adorned with cotton (decorations I bought from Michaels that were marked as Xmas decorations 🥴) as it has strong ties to the Black/African American population in America. This piece is a rework. I found the orginal painting at Savers. I was in awe of the handcrafted detail the frame had. The original painting was built into the canvas so my only option was to paint over it. This piece is available for lease or purchase on rajinethequeen.com. Blue Black is 12x16”. • • • • • #rosaluxgallery #artgallery #localartist #mnartist #mnartists #blackartists #blackartistspace #mixedmediaart #mixedmediaartist #multimediaartist #blueblack #postiveart #blackfemaleartist #blackfemaleentrepreneurs #minneapolisartist #minneapolisartists
