Last month we were talking about how making role requirements clear, specific, and behaviour-based will mean that your job advert will attract a more diverse range of applicants. Here are two examples of how to change traditional wording: Instead of “You are a natural leader” change it to “you have held line management responsibilities.” Or change “You are a gifted communicator” to “You have presented your findings to clients or at conferences.” Many potential applicants may not think they are a natural leader, but by making it behaviour-based many more people will know the skills that you are looking for.
