Great conference with inspiring speakers today and tomorrow: Europe 2024 by ZEIT Verlagsgruppe, Handelsblatt, WirtschaftsWoche, Der Tagesspiegel. Take aways from some of the keynotes: “We need less discussion and more decisions.” Bruno Le Maire, Minister of Economy, Finance, Industrial & Digital Sovereignty. The friendship of France and Germany is so strong that we can path a way forward in collaboration for and within Europe. In competition with economies like the US and Chinese we need to stand together. Guillaume Faury, CEO Airbus and former test pilot, states “Europe accepted to share” which is the reason why this cross-national company is so successful. He sees this as main factor for success: one airbus manufacturer in Europe, created a scale to be competitive to our American competitors. Aviation industry is growing. The emerging markets get a taste for travelling. Ecologic and economic factors are aligned in a plane when it needs far less fuel. Currently the 4. revolution of aviation is ongoing = decarbonization. Hydrogen plains are expected to be on the market by 203. Until then major challenges have to be overcome: e.g. fuel production and supply, simply the revolution of that industry. Dr. Rainer Esser is a great moderator, bringing much of his charming spirit in the way he announces the keynote speakers. A pleasure and honor to be part of this conference. #Europe2024 #business #Europe

Decrease confusion among researchers. That is the ultimate goal of the German government, who passed their Medical Research Bill (“Medizinforschungsgesetz”) last week. Says journalist Volkart Wildermuth in the Deutschlandfunk podcast "Der Tag": “Dieses Durcheinander soll verhindern werden.” He refers, of course, to the very heterogenous approval process for medical research projects in different German states. The new legislation aims at harmonizing this process, while maintaining highest standards. That should directly impact many of our partners, who often design and execute pilot tests and studies of jointly developed, health sector adjacent technology solutions. Looking forward to what they’ll have to say about this. #researchanddevelopment #medicalresearch #policy https://lnkd.in/dsAyRRRf

🌐 “The challenges of our time are a joint task for business, politics and society. We are convinced that the international orientation of global companies can also contribute to the political stabilization of regions around the world,” emphasized our CEO, Oliver Blume, during his visit to the WEF in Davos. Joining Blume in Switzerland for this crucial global dialogue are fellow board members Gernot Döllner, Thomas Schmall, Hildegard Wortmann and Christian Levin. The Volkswagen Group champions internationality, supports free exchange across national borders, and advocates open and fair global trade. It is also committed to a culture of mutual respect and appreciation. This is particularly important, as the Volkswagen Group is a global company, offering its products in more than 150 countries. ⚡ In Germany, our Group’s home base with strong brands such as Volkswagen, Porsche and Audi, we have made substantial investments in sustainable mobility. This includes electrifying more and more plants and building our first battery cell plant in Salzgitter, which is also the center of our worldwide battery development program. Regarding Germany’s role in the global transformation, Blume remarks, “In the current situation, we in Germany need to think much more in terms of opportunities. We need to roll up our sleeves, tackle the problems and solve them. Not complain, but look ahead with confidence. That is what has always made our country strong. We have the power to shape our own future.” He continues: “A look around the world shows: Competition is getting tougher and working hours and costs also play a role. We have to work for prosperity and social benefits – and we have done so in Germany for decades. The generation of our mothers and fathers knows this very well. We should act accordingly. We see this as our responsibility to future generations.” 🤝 It is great to see so many minds coming together in Davos. Together, we are not only shaping our future, but also contributing to a world that thrives on collaboration, innovation and a shared sense of purpose. Looking forward to more insights from these discussions!

Yesterday, Chancellor Olaf Scholz and other representatives of the German Federal Government met with leaders from business, trade unions, associations, science, and civil society to discuss how to effectively advance the circular economy. We also participated! Not only are we honored to be part of these important discussions, but we are especially glad about the great importance that the Federal Government and the Chancellor himself attribute to the Circular Economy. Scholz said: “The further modernization of Germany and the climate-neutral transformation of our economy remain key goals of the federal government. The aim is to achieve our climate protection goals and secure our prosperity at the same time.” This matches perfectly with our motto “Grow the Economy – Protect the Environment”. According to Scholz, the circular economy not only “offers the opportunity to become less dependent on the import of important raw materials”, but also provides enormous potential for economic growth. He explained that studies suggest that, “a circular economy could generate around €12 billion in additional gross value added per year by 2030 and create new jobs”. He concluded that: “Our goal is to become a global pioneer for circular technologies and products, e.g. in the field of batteries or construction. We are therefore currently working on a national circular economy strategy that we will be launching very soon.” Other participants at the Allianz für Transformation (Alliance for Transformation) meeting included: Robert Habeck (Vice-Chancellor and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection), Steffi Lemke (Federal Minister for the Environment), Yasmin Fahimi (DGB - Deutscher Gewerkschaftsbund), Tanja Gönner (BDI - Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie e.V.), Thomas Weber (acatech – Deutsche Akademie der Technikwissenschaften), Kai Niebert (Deutscher Naturschutzring), Dr. Max Neufeind (State Chancellery), Oliver Zipse, (BMW Group), Sarah Fleischer, (tozero), Dr. Arthur Singer (STABL Energy), Dr. Peter Moesle (Drees & Sommer), Leopold Spenner (alcemy). #AllianzfürTransformation #AllianceforTransformation #circularvalley #circulareconomy #circularity #sustainability #homeofcirculareconomy #cooperation #collaboration #kreislaufwirtschaft #heimatderkreislaufwirtschaft #nachhaltigkeit Photos by Bundesregierung / Sandra Steins

Majority of employees in Germany still want rapid steps towards a sustainable industry. But approval is declining. Three points are crucial to reversing the trend: job prospects, fairness, and social cohesion - these are the results of our latest study at the Wittenberg-Zentrum für Globale Ethik Renata Jungo Brüngger and Sabine Kohleisen explained in Dresden how Mercedes-Benz AG is meeting these expectations: With clear commitments 1️⃣ to sustainable innovations – 100% renewables and 0 emissions remain the ambition 2039, 2️⃣ to Germany as business location – Kamenz is MBs global lead plant for battery production 3️⃣ to freedom, respect and global cooperation – sustainable transformation needs democratic societies. Many thanks to Ministerpräsident Michael Kretschmer, Sylvia Pfefferkorn from Wirtschaft für ein weltoffenes Sachsen e. V. und Dr. Nicole Ziegler from ZEISS Group for the engaged and lively discussion on our panel. If we want to maintain support for sustainability and democracy, we need more bold statements and concrete examples like these. And, as Michael Kretschmer and Renata Jungo Brüngger resumed: we need to "dare" more dialogue and debate.
All of us want a good life. Today and for the generations to come. This includes prosperity, a strong democracy, and an intact environment and stable climate. If we want to work towards these goals, we need everyone: businesses, politics, and society. That’s why we at Mercedes-Benz value open and honest exchange with stakeholders and partners. Our sustainability dialogues are a very important part of this: We regularly invite politicians as well as representatives from industry and society to drive this conversation forward. This has been a tradition for many years. This time we met in Saxony, which is known for its innovation-friendliness and is a very important location for us as a company. With our battery production in Kamenz and our subsidiary, Mercedes-Benz Energy, we’re working on future-oriented technologies here. That's why we invited to a Dialogue at the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum in Dresden yesterday. As a special guest of honour, we welcomed Minister-President Michael Kretschmer to our panel discussion. Together with my board colleague Sabine Kohleisen, and our local guests – Sylvia Pfefferkorn from Wirtschaft für ein weltoffenes Sachsen e. V. and Dr. Nicole Ziegler from ZEISS Group – we talked about the importance of democracy, Saxony as a technology and business location and the sustainable transformation. Thank you very much, Martin von Broock, for the excellent moderation of the discussions. And thank you, Edith Callsen, for guiding us through the day. For us it is clear: Mercedes-Benz is committed to sustainable mobility and is sticking to its Ambition 2039 (more info here: https://lnkd.in/eZ8RV_6R). And we clearly reject backward-looking attitudes like anti-European positions, xenophobia or hatred. Because democracy and sustainable transformation go hand in hand.

Planning a trip to Hannover Messe in April? I plan to be there, so if you would like to meet up in the Siemens booth, drop me a message. Below is a link for tickets etc. See you there! How will a digital-first approach revolutionize the way we design, manufacture, and recycle products for a more #sustainable future? 🌱 The pressure is on for manufacturers to dramatically reduce their environmental impact. Consumer demand for sustainably made products continues to grow rapidly. Regulations aimed at reducing waste and emissions are proliferating across the globe. 🌍 To meet these challenges, we need to completely rethink how products are designed, made, and disposed of. Adopting a digital-first approach will be key to this revolution. By harnessing the power of digital tools and data analytics, manufacturers can optimize every phase of a product’s lifecycle - from design to end-of-life. This end-to-end #digitalization enhances quality, flexibility and speed to market. Importantly, it also allows the analysis of a product’s entire lifecycle impact to inform better eco-design decisions. At HANNOVER MESSE 2024 we’re showcasing our solutions that enable this #digitaltransformation towards sustainability. Go digital, become sustainable! Learn more about our innovations at #HM24 powering the sustainable future of manufacturing and visit us in Hall 9 from April 22 - 26, 2024. https://sie.ag/3cByBy

First day at #IFAT 2024, visiting clients in Munich region and discovering all the new improvements in circular economy. 🇩🇪🤝 The circular economy is expected to record annual growth of more than five percent - reaching market volume of EUR 32 billion by 2030. Germany has long been a leader in the transition towards a circular economy. Progressive policies and initiatives promote resource efficiency and waste reduction. A strong industrial base, solid legislative framework and innovative capabilities provide a sound foundation for the further growth of the circular economy. The sector has the potential to create new business opportunities, employment and environmental benefits as well as contributing to Germany's sustainable development goals. 🇩🇪🌍
