Your business is measured through financial targets, goals and initiatives. It is however your people the ones that will develop these tactics that will facilitate your sucess. And, when it comes about how you integrate your staff, we have too much to do to make our workplaces more diverse, equal and inclusive to everyone, everywhere. And your people are very aware of where you sit in landscape. I've been at Jellyfish for over 10 years now, and I've always been conscious we have been at the forefront on this space. BUT, inside me, I know it isn't enough. We still have disparities, and many things we continously miss (or are bias), so we clearly need to do more. And, why not, share it with the world. I am proud to share our first DEI report, led by our estimated colleagues Chris Mariel and Luisa Monteiro Furlan. When you work for a hospitality company, serendipitous discovery is part of the landscape. Today I bumped into Toby Foreman, founder of HÆRFEST COFFEE roasting co., who was visiting Canteen (which is part of Compass Group’s family of businesses) to share with our associates samples of a few of their coffee blends – a “smoky jazzy” French roast, the “classical high notes” of Kenya, and the “funky fruitiness” of a Guatemalan blend.    HÆRFEST, which is pronounced “harvest” from an Old English variant, is firmly rooted in creating opportunities for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Since its inception 20 years ago, every aspect of the company has intentionally evolved to provide jobs for people with disabilities – from the artwork on the bags to roasting, grinding, packaging, and delivery. It also has home-based microbusinesses for those unable to work outside of the home. The company was inspired by Toby’s brother who had an intellectual disability, and then took on another level of purpose when Toby and his wife welcomed their second son, who has Down Syndrome. The company’s logo of intersecting C’s reflects its ethos of Capability, Competence, and Compassion.    “It’s a way to share coffee and provide something for those who see the world differently,” Toby enthusiastically noted as we sipped one of the delicious blends, “Coffee can make a difference.”    HÆRFEST is clearly brewing more than coffee. All these community of “strong men” should be RE-branded as community of “gay men” why seclude society more and devide them more between men and women? This is done in the USA more than any other parts of the World. From when they are children to where they become adults like in this Bali Video. The World is mixed. This community would be better with men and women in it enjoying nature and fostering relationships! No wonder women can’t get a men in America. And if she gets him Its like being with a 5 year old and he needs to be with his male friends constantly, it’s never couples with couples. They were never thought to mix with women from a young age, emotionally, physically or sexually. Therefore, they reach 18 and see the woman as an alien creature. In Europe everyone is naked in front of everyone without taboo.. men get to see the woman naked body 1 billion times by the time he is 18. Therefore, he knows to admire it and treat it with respect. In America it becomes another material procession that the man must have and disregard as a toy when he is done playing with it. Or, they grow to be pedophiles because as children they weren’t allowed to explore naked bodies of other kids his or her age. So they grow up wondering and that’s when all these bad things in society happen. I read about this in a scientific article that explained it very well. Is worth your own google reasearch. As a society instead of segregating men from women we must make events where we bring them together to share their experiences in life, to bond and empathetize with one another. The segregation of only men or only women is breeding in gay and lesbian traits on both genders. I can’t stand attending a women’s only club, event or trip. Why? The World is mixed for a reason. God created men and women for a reason. Maybe in sports is wise to separate the two genders, so that women don’t get hurt playing the same game with rough men. But, this is the only exception! Or, if there is a movement valued by women that they want to fight for, such as for equal rights in society, I can understand the female only segregation to unite and conquer on a mission. However, in the spirit of progress and inclusivity, it's essential to recognize and respect individual boundaries. Instead of the traditional "Bura na mano, Holi hai" (Don't mind, it's Holi), let's embrace a consent-focused approach to celebrate Holi with respect, understanding, and inclusivity. Here's how we can break stereotypical ways of celebration and make Holi a festival of consent: 1. Respect Personal Space: Before applying colors or engaging in any form of celebration, always ask for consent. Respect the personal space of others and avoid forceful or unwanted participation. 2. Communicate Clearly: Rather than assuming everyone wants to participate in all Holi festivities, communicate openly. Ask others if they're comfortable with color play, water balloons, or any other form of celebration. 3. Offer Opt-Out Options: Create designated areas or zones where individuals who do not wish to participate can feel safe and respected. Offer alternatives like music, dance, or food-centric celebrations for those who prefer not to engage in color play. 4. Educate About Consent: Use Holi as an opportunity to educate about the importance of consent in all aspects of life. Encourage discussions around consent, boundaries, and respect within families, communities, and social circles. 5. Empower Individuals: Empower individuals to speak up if they feel uncomfortable or if their boundaries are being crossed. Encourage a culture where saying "no" is respected and honored. 6. Celebrate Diversity: Embrace the diversity of perspectives and experiences within your community. Acknowledge that not everyone celebrates Holi in the same way and that cultural sensitivity and understanding are crucial. 7. Practice Mindful Celebration: Encourage mindful celebration by using eco-friendly and skin-safe colors. Avoid substances that may cause harm or discomfort to others. 8. Lead by Example: As leaders within your community, lead by example by practicing and promoting consent-focused celebrations. Show others that respecting boundaries enriches the festival experience for everyone involved. Holi is a time for joy, love, and togetherness. By adopting a consent-focused approach, we can break stereotypical ways of celebration and create a more inclusive and respectful environment for all. European Works Council calls on Barry Callebaut for transparency and equality for employees We launch an urgent appeal to Barry Callebaut regarding the lack of transparency and equality within the company. ✅ The EWC believes that Barry Callebaut has only provided superficial information, which means that we cannot yet make our own analysis or formulate counter-proposals. Despite repeated requests, our experts have not received sufficient information to date. In addition, we have identified inconsistencies and ambiguities in the figures provided and in the timing of important decisions. ✅ Another concern is Barry Callebaut's continued distinction between workers from sites with union representation and those without. The EWC strongly rejects the concept of second-class employees and insists that all employees are treated equally, regardless of their location, representation and regardless of individual or collective dismissals. ✅ The EWC also wonders whether Barry Callebaut's recent decision to establish a Global Business Services Center (GBS) in Poland is just the first step towards a similar center in India.   📣 We call on Barry Callebaut to address these concerns and comply with the requirements of the EWC. For example, we want a commitment to European agreements to guarantee fair, transparent and equal treatment of all its employees. In response to our statement above, management has made the following commitments: 👉 There will be an extensive Steering Committee meeting at which our experts (chosen by the employee delegation) will support us to make a thorough analysis of the situation so that we can make alternative proposals. This meeting will take place at the end of April. 👉 Management is committed to equal treatment for all possible stakeholders at BC Next Level. Social dialogue will take place everywhere and the same principles will be applied to every employee in all European countries and sites. 👉 There will be another plenary EWC during the month of May, at which we want to reach European agreements if we have received sufficient information. ✊ We have managed to organize European solidarity and will work together for a true and better future at Barry Callebaut in the interests of employees.
