Last session was memorable for me. School is fun. Except for numerous tests and examinations, of course. One course that stood out was Nursing Ethics and Jurisprudence. I wondered what connection nursing had with law too. But this course was an eye opener. From learning about consent and the implication of informed decision-making to medical negligence and malpractice, I truly learned. The scenario-based interactive class discussions, being introduced to interesting legal jargon and the lecturer's manner of questioning that felt like we were in a mini-court was the highlight for me. At some point, I was considering being a nurse attorney or a path in forensic nursing. Combine nursing with Annalise Keating's eloquence (in How to Get Away With Mu*rder) and they won't see me coming. When I had the opportunity to be in an actual court hearing for the first time in November, my brewing drive for law died a natural death. It felt nothing like what I saw in the movies or experienced in class. While I didn't expect it to be all jubilatory, I never expected it to be funereal either. I'd like to know. Is there a reason courts are this way? Pin-drop silence, barely hearing whatever the judge perused and all... Or this only happens in the court hearing I experienced. Anywho, it's a new session and hopefully, my final. Pumped up with anticipation for new knowledge in the class room and actually applying them in the hospital and other volunteering experiences I get. I look forward to sharing them all with you! Do you have an idea for an inquiry project, but you aren’t sure where to start? All inquiry experts – including the members of the JHHS Inquiry Council - were beginners once. We asked them what they would say to nurses who lack the confidence to pursue inquiry work – here’s a tip from Dawn Hohl, Senior Director of Transitions and Patient Experience with Johns Hopkins Care at Home and member of the JHHS Inquiry Council: “Don’t be afraid of inquiry work – it builds on the foundation of the nursing process – you know the science. Nurses are naturally inquisitive – how can we improve the care we deliver? I wonder if others practicing in this area have researched this XXX? Your inquiry questions probably could go on and on. This is Nursing Inquiry. To gain confidence, engage your leader or a mentor. Let them know you are interested and want to learn more. Like in our Safety World – Speak Up! Select an area of interest and Start! Ask for help and keep your leader and mentor involved! Talk to others about your interest and your project!” #Nursing #BeCurious #BeConfident #JohnsHopkins

Nursing Times if we are going to ask then ask #everybody regardless of #ethnicity The NHS - is let’s be honest a #brutal environment to work in where there is no place to hide, because mistakes cost lives. The Nursing and Midwifery Council how many #nurses are denied a #promotion because they are #white or #male #patients are suffering because #nurses are scared to call-out #incompetence because the go to #defence is #racism and #nhs #hr teams are failing to deal with it. When did an #evidencebased service become a #noneevidencebased service. #equality is just that…..all are held to the same high standards regardless of #race as the #patient comes first…….. #physicalhealth #occupationalhealth #psychologicalhealth https://lnkd.in/eqcKSSf5
