April marks World Landscape Architecture Month, a time to reflect on the importance of sustainable landscaping and the important role of water conservation in our world. As we look towards creating greener, more sustainable landscapes, it's important to highlight the innovations that make this possible. In the face of drought conditions, water restrictions and renewed calls for more intelligent watering practices, Orbia's Precision Agriculture business, Netafim USA, leads the way with advanced landscape & turf irrigation solutions. Drip irrigation technology tackles the challenge of under and over-watering by irrigating where turf and plants can efficiently uptake water, establishing a thriving and lush landscape while utilizing less resources. A Netafim Drip irrigation system for lawn, garden, landscaping, and turf has both short and long-term benefits over other emission devices such as conventional irrigation rotors or sprinklers. Precision irrigation gets right to the root zone ensuring adequate watering and uptake without the risk of under or over-watering. From water savings to healthier plants, drip irrigation provides solutions for efficient and effective irrigation even in the most challenging residential and commercial landscapes. When it comes to sustainability, Netafim USA is steadfast in supporting the principles of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) towards fostering a sustainable future through cost-efficient and energy-saving green buildings. While it's important to note that LEED does not certify individual products, the integration of products within a project plays a pivotal role in the achievement of LEED credits towards certification. Our innovative product lines including Techline® CV, Techline® RW, Techline® EZ, and our Polyethylene tubing, are aligned with LEED's MR Credit 4 category. These product lines are specifically designed to contribute towards earning valuable LEED points, by incorporating at least 20% recycled content. This includes a minimum of 5% post-consumer and 30% pre-consumer content, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to material efficiency and the use of sustainable resources. As we celebrate World Landscape Architecture Month, let's remember the importance of sustainable practices. Netafim's commitment to water conservation through innovative drip irrigation technology continues to inspire and enable sustainable landscaping solutions worldwide. Let's pave the way for a more sustainable future, one drop at a time. #WorldLandscapeArchitectureMonth #Sustainability #WaterConservation #DripIrrigation #Innovation #Netafim #Orbia

Xeriscaping 101: A beginner's guide to water-efficient landscaping Drought-proof your yard, not your wallet! Starting a xeriscaped yard involves several key steps to ensure a water-efficient and sustainable landscape. Here's a simple guide to help you get started: 1. Planning and design: Assess your yard to understand its sun and shade patterns, soil type, and existing vegetation. Develop a detailed landscape plan that groups plants with similar water needs together. Consider succulents, ornamental grasses and Mediterranean plants. 2. Soil improvement: Enhance your soil with organic matter like compost to improve its structure and fertility, which helps plants retain moisture. 3. Efficient irrigation: Install efficient irrigation systems such as drip irrigation to deliver water directly to the plant roots, minimizing evaporation and runoff. 4. Choosing plants: Select native and drought-tolerant plants that require less water and are adapted to your local climate. 5. Mulching: Organic mulches include wood chips and compost, while inorganic mulches include rocks and gravel. Both types of mulches prevent water evaporation and reduce weed growth. Apply mulch around your plants to help retain soil moisture, suppress weeds, and reduce evaporation. 6. Maintenance: Regularly maintain your xeriscaped yard by pruning, weeding, and checking the irrigation system to ensure everything is working efficiently. 7. Rainwater Harvesting - Collect rainwater in barrels for irrigation. Use rain chains or swales to direct water. By following these steps, you can create a beautiful, sustainable, and water-efficient landscape. #WaterConservingLandscaping #SmartScaping #LowWaterLandscaping #SustainableLandscaping #DryLandscaping #EcoFriendlyLandscaping #XeriscapeDesign #WaterSavingTips #XeriscapingBenefits #EcoFriendlyLandscaping

Yes! Compost is a key and critical component to the development and resilience of our urban landscapes including our ball fields, golf courses, greenways and shade trees! Compost is all about the right biology versus the amount of NPK that's in it. AND......Not all compost is equal.....and only high quality, biologically diverse and active compost should be sourced for optimal success. The more locally sourced from smaller scale compost producers typically generate the best and highest quality deserving of broadscale application. Small batches of compost can go a long way for larger scale applications say over a 190 acre golf course in the city. Just need to find the right producer who is experienced in making both the solid and liquid form of compost. Fun Fact: Just 1 gallon of solid compost can turn into 20 gallons to treat 1 acre of parkland through existing irrigation system. https://lnkd.in/gQcGX4YW

Innovative landscape research project coming to Arapahoe County Admin Building A three-acre parcel will soon be transformed from a thirsty and sparse Kentucky bluegrass field to a vibrant lawn of flowers, grasses and herbaceous flowering plants. The transformation is part of a study to measure the efficacy of a propriety seed mix and application protocol for improving soil quality, reducing irrigation costs, and eliminating the need for herbicide and pesticides. Arapahoe County’s Water Action Plan, created in 2022, aims to reduce landscape water use by 13% over the next five to 10 years from a baseline established in 2019. A previous project to convert the Administration Building’ s west lawn to native grasses has netted a savings of nearly 1.8 million gallons of water so far, well in excess of that 13% goal. https://lnkd.in/gmMaT824

#SubcontractorSpotlight: Lakeside Alliance is proud to spotlight BrightView Landscapes, one of the nation’s leading commercial landscape companies. When it comes to the #ObamaPresidentialCenter, BrightView is partnering with 19 local, minority-owned firms to plant all of the trees, shrubs and perennials on-site, install systems to support irrigation and water runoff, and more to deliver a stronger, more impactful project outcome. Check out our Q&A with James Wallace, BrightView’s Midwest regional manager for business development, below ⬇️ Q: What sets BrightView apart from other landscape companies? A: We’ve built some of the largest, most complex landscape projects across the country, such as the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and National Harbor in Washington, D.C. In 2021 and 2022, we created a ballpark in a cornfield in Dyersville, Iowa, for the Field of Dreams classic inspired by the 1989 film. Since I started with the company back in 2006, we’ve expanded across the country, and customers will take us with them if we don’t have a presence in that market. Now, we are at the national level, with 250 offices across the country. The work we do motivates people really easily. Q: What makes this project unique? A: In addition to the planting, we’re doing all of the soil and soil accessories, stone embankments, fences and gates, playground equipment and miscellaneous metals. In terms of the complexity, we’re bringing in over 16,000 cubic yards of soil, which is a lot, and around 1,400 trees and 3,800 shrubs. We conducted a number of contractor outreach meetings to find companies to work with us on this, and now we have 19 local, minority-owned businesses helping us do what needs to get done. That’s what really makes this so special – it’s on the leading edge of bringing local minority participation to such a major project. Q: What does it mean to you personally and for the business to participate in this project? A: From a local standpoint, just getting our name in front of all the local companies we’re utilizing is a big deal in the market. And being on one of the largest projects in the Midwest is pretty incredible. Overall, it is a cutting edge project. There has never been a project this aggressive about bringing local people to the job site and putting them to work. It’s really important for BrightView to be a part of something like this, to be in the community and helping people. We have a large presence in the communities where we work and serve. This is a great opportunity to do that. Read more from our interview with BrightView here: https://bit.ly/3F72Op6 | #LakesideAlliance #TeamOPC
