GRWM: Orientation Packs - all you ever wanted to know (and some stuff you never knew you should know;). Our FREE Orientation for children is an absolutely crucial part of our intake process. We strongly believe in setting our children up for success BEFORE they have any visits. This also helps reassure parents and allows us to begin connecting with them. Children will now also receive the My Visit To Penguin Social Story all about what happens in a visit. #setforsuccess#orientationpack#freeorientation#penguinmethod#VisittoPenguinbook

As a Walkabout Education alum and current Executive Director my lens on what the purpose specifically of senior year in high school has been front and center for me.
Senior year is a launch pad.
What does it look like for Senior year to launch students into their next step on a truly personalized level?
This was the beauty of my Walkabout experience. I felt truly prepared for the independence and self reliance of my post-secondary life.
In my new role as Executive Director of Walkabout Education and as the advisor of a beautiful and inspiring group of Juniors, this work is front and center. How are the actions in taking today launching my students into their next phase of life?
Also-how do we structure schools to create these opportunities for young people?

There's a profound, often under-appreciated power in hands-on learning, particularly through art.
On a recent excursion to the Kids Clay Room, our Dream On students experienced the transformative power of art firsthand.
This wasn't just another day outside the classroom - it was an immersion into the tactile world of pottery, where each student could literally shape their imagination into reality.
Here’s why these experiences are invaluable:
🌙 Fosters Patience: Working with clay teaches children the importance of slowing down and respecting the process.
🌙 Sparks Creativity: Pottery offers a blank canvas for imagination, encouraging kids to think outside the box.
🌙 Builds Confidence: There’s a unique pride in creating something tangible, boosting self-esteem and encouraging future endeavors.
🌙 Develops Fine Motor Skills: Manipulating clay enhances hand-eye coordination and dexterity.
This field trip exemplified how art can be a powerful tool for development and discovery, reminding us of the crucial role hands-on learning plays in education.
By stepping into spaces that challenge and inspire, our students learn more than just skills—they learn about themselves.
