Summary of Position: The Graduate Admissions Counselor will implement recruitment process from inquiry to matriculation for prospective students within assigned territory/programs to achieve or exceed the pre- determined, graduate and or adult degree completion programs, quantitative goals. Participate in policy, best practice, business requirements, and data analytics discussions as it relates to enrollment populations. Primary Responsibilities Identify, recruit, maintain contact, and enroll prospective students; plan and arrange necessary travel within territory; and contribute to office-based communications flow plan with students and college contacts to achieve or exceed the pre-determined quantitative goals while actively monitoring and managing admissions funnel. Establish and maintain an informational, active communication system with prospective students by means of college visits, college/corporate fairs, telephone recruiting, e-mail/text campaigns, and personal visits to promote Augsburg University. Read, interpret, and evaluate students' academic credentials to assist prospective students in determining level of fit for programs. Support planning of events for prospective students and coordinate the involvement of faculty and staff with partnership institutions/organizations to enhance and deepen their relationships with Augsburg. Coordinate with the Admission Leadership and Operations Manager to maximize the CRM platform in the recruitment process, acquire accurate data, define and develop excellent business practices, and assist in the development of helpful reporting. Participate in cross department discussions pertaining to problem-solving, college policy, best practice, business requirements, and data analytics discussions. At the direction of your supervisor, connect with outside organizations to raise the level of public awareness of Augsburg including: military organizations, higher education associations, professional and corporate organizations, non-profit organizations, and academic partners. Complete initial unofficial transfer credit evaluations and coordination of advisement

everyone talks about a career journey, but i've seen few talk about the VERY beginning. so this is how i went from being a hooters girl to becoming a research scientist 🦉 🔬 yes y'all i was a hooters girl, serving wings and curly fries, and there's no shame in my game. starting in undergrad, i was working 2-3 jobs constantly. i worked at hooters for awhile. after hurricane harvey hit houston, i would go to work at hooters when i felt like it and the location i worked made me pick becoming a general manager or focusing on school. i was making $2.15 + tips while working at hooters, i was also working on campus as a researcher conducting research on the physiochemical properties of starch vegetables and micro greens; i was also focusing on water quality, turning waste water to clean drinking water with agriculture engineering. (most of my undergrad research is published :D) my junior year i was working at hooters (off and on), p.f. changs, american eagle and researcher. y'all i was TIRED. on top of this intense work load i a FULL TIME STUDENT. when you're in a STEM academic focus a typical full time student is 15 hours + summer school. if you want to graduate in 4 years. after graduation i didn't work that summer because of COVID and was on unemployment, in july of 2020 i became a full time grad student and a full time biology teacher DURING COVID 😭 in addition to my full work load i was a full-time business owner, running a hand cut and sew head wrap business. my business would sell out because it would go viral on twitter. so my weekends consisted of photoshoots, sewing, writing papers, and prepping lesson plans. in 2022 i transitioned from working as a biology and art teacher, to working at adobe. because of my americorp agreement, i still had to teach until graduation. so i was a full time tech recruiter, part time teacher with a private school (I taught biology, a&p, and physical science), AND FULL TIME GRAD STUDENT. after graduation in 2023 i focused on tech recruiting. after being laid off for months I decided to get into career and college guidance counseling full time (I have 137 student I work with), and I'm a full-time PhD student, MBA candidate, and conducting post-graduate research. in addition to all of these I'm HEAVILY active in my community and have done constant community service :D

i want to talk about what "job security" looks like moving forward and have an open conversation about it. i've never had the chance to experience job security per se because the concept of workforce and pensions only seemed "attainable" in archaic systems. let me paint my experience in the workforce. in 2017/2018, hurricane harvey hit houston and it affected my career per se in the restaurant industry. in 2020, i landed my first full-time position as a teacher, and being a first-year biology teacher during a pandemic was as stressful and hard as it sounds. in 2021, i experienced a life-altering workplace experience that unintentionally allowed me to quit teaching full-time and work in tech. in 2022, i landed my first tech job on a contract basis and eventually converted to an FTE at my tech job. in 2023, i got laid off from my tech job. as someone who has never had the opportunity to just "be" in one career space because external forces outside of myself required me to pivot, i find myself asking what job security or stability truly means. is it contract work, full-time employment, entrepreneurship, investing, etc.? i've been blessed to have exposure to so many different industries and companies, and to have the education that allows me to move so fluidly between spaces and intersections of the workforce industries. my answer to the initial question i posed is, i think contract-based consulting work or just work in general is what this new era of job stability will look like. not solely corporate contracts but in private sectors, local city, government, and international levels. but let me know what y'all think 🤔
