In these trying times of uncertainties Runaway Child ‘Runnin Wild, You Better Go Back Home Where You Belong-Book of Poems, speaks to the community, and parents need to be vigilant, and in constant communication with our youth today, so they don’t get caught up in the madness, wrestling with the unknown. This poetry book displays the struggle, the wrong choices, the bad experiences, and the lessons learned from the world that will hopefully shape, mold, and mature them into becoming the productive adults that they are called to be. Our youth have so much on their plates, including some leftovers to share relating to anxiety, depression, struggles, and sorrows. It’s a wonder that they cope, and navigate as well as they do under such horrific conditions that society freely dishes out. Nonetheless, should a child feel the need to run-away, and then return from the school of hard knocks (like the prodigal son), it’s extremely important to love on them extra hard without demoralizing them for their undesirable choices. The importance of teaching our daughters to lift each other up instead of tearing each other down. As parents we must model compassion, patience and kindness so our daughters learn to build others up with their words and actions instead of hitting below the belt. Our daughters watch how we handle conflict and react to others, they learn empathy from our examples. The view from here shows that we are all interconnected, depend on each other. We all get good at putting on a brave face. This time of year is especially hard for those who are alone, grieving, or missing those they love. Appearances can be deceptive. It might even look as if they're having a great time. All too often it comes as a shock to discover the pain and suffering someone we think we know and love very well has been hiding. Even our neighbours and colleagues we know less well, we don't know what goes on behind closed doors. Reach out if in doubt. Reach out anyway. Send a message. Or better still, call them up. Check in on the people in your life. Send them some love. Let them know you care. Because we're all in this game of life together. Not all days are easy. Let's love each other a little bit more. And if it's you who is alone, struggling, in pain, or suffering in any way, reach out to those who are around you. People are rushing around so busy these days, especially during the festive season. They do not mean to not notice, they're just not looking, understanding, or taking time to stop and check. They do care. They just might need a reminder. It can be confusing to remember or recognise that your co-parent has some beautiful strengths. Or just that they aren't a complete loser. This can create feelings of angst and guilt. Many parents worry that ending their relationship has been selfish, and harmful for the children. But people don't leave relationships easily, and the parents that I've worked with over so many years - they have not made their decisions lightly. They've made them after much heartwrenching and soul-searching. Leaving an unhealthy relationship that has no chance of recovery is a courageous act of love. For you, for your co-parent, and for your kids. Of course your co-parent has strengths and positive characteristics! You're not stupid, and there was enough there for you to want to go into the relationship in the first place! It's awesome when you can see those strengths and positive aspects again - and it doesn't mean that it wasn't the right thing for your relationship to end. Sometimes it's after the separation that the most beautiful blossoming of both parents can occur - and what an amazing gift that is to your gorgeous kids.
