Tyler Perry's decision to leave Hollywood? Creative control: By leaving Hollywood, Perry gained complete creative control over his projects, allowing him to tell stories that reflected the experiences and perspectives of Black people without interference from industry gatekeepers. Inclusivity: Perry wanted to create a space where Black talent could thrive and feel represented. He saw an opportunity to build a community where Black writers, directors, and actors could work together and support each other. Atlanta's film-friendly environment: Atlanta offers a more business-friendly environment, with lower production costs, tax incentives, and a growing pool of talented local crew members. This allowed Perry to produce high-quality content without breaking the bank. Access to diverse storytelling: Atlanta's diverse population and rich cultural heritage provided Perry with access to unique stories and perspectives that might be harder to find in Los Angeles. As for why other Black entrepreneur executives in the film industry haven't followed suit, there are several reasons: Lack of access to resources: Starting a studio or production company requires significant resources, including funding, equipment, and infrastructure. Many Black entrepreneurs may not have access to these resources

Juneteenth falls right in the middle of one of the world's most famous and largest creative festivals, Cannes Lions! For the advertising and creative world, there is no getting around it — it’s the busiest and most festive time of year for our industry. So what happens when you need to work through an important holiday? Earlier this year, our team spoke with the DEI team at Cannes about creative ways to honor Juneteenth when you still have to be on and connected for the international festival. One idea was working with brands like Because Of Them We Can, whose main focus is to shine a light on Black History and to share stories of the world's first. What better way to honor the spirit of Juneteenth than celebrating the first creatives that paved the way so people of all backgrounds can attend Cannes, and achieve success in our industry. How are you honoring Juneteenth at/during Cannes? Do you have any other ideas? Please share in the comments so we can continue the conversation.

Since the Harlem Renaissance, Black women have shaped the culture uptown: In 1948, Jean Blackwell Hutson was appointed curator at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, and in 1968, Dr. Barbara Ann Teer founded the National Black Theatre. Yet only now are the majority of the neighborhood’s most prominent theaters and museums being simultaneously led by Black women — women who are fortifying and expanding their organizations despite funding cuts for libraries and arts programs and the rapid gentrification of their community. Black culture is often recognized as important only in retrospect; consider the recent opening of “The Harlem Renaissance and Transatlantic Modernism” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, an amendment to its famously disgraceful 1969 exhibition on the same subject. But further uptown, you’ll find a group of women in charge. Their institutions are flourishing, creating new infrastructure while growing their audiences, and this cohort is focused as much on preserving Black history as they are on building Harlem’s future. -Thelma Golden, director and chief curator of the Studio Museum in Harlem, leads the institution through a $300 million construction project slated to open in 2025. - Sade Lythcott, CEO of the National Black Theatre, is seeing the theater through a dazzling 21-story renovation down the block. - Michelle Ebanks, Apollo’s CEO, and executive producer, Kamilah Forbes, just opened the Victoria Theater next door to its main stage, marking the historic venue’s first expansion in its storied history. From the wisdom passed on to them by their predecessors, these women represent a powerful commitment to community development. “We have to determine — by listening to the community, by listening to the world around us — what is a story that we need to tell through the facility of this institution,” Forbes says of revitalizing the Apollo. “We have to constantly be ready to evolve.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eu4aVJxD #BlackWomenLead #BlackCulture #BlackLeadership

Driving Lighting change through cutting edge technology from survey to completion. Innovation at the core of sustainable lighting solutions.
What can we celebrate? Well today I celebrate the fact that not only have I worked very hard for the last 20 years of my career. But this hard work pays off in so many ways. - family activity - a comfortable home - food on the table - the ability to sponsor when asked to do so - the opportunity that I’m able to give to others - the support I’m able to give others - the experience to question other people’s truth - and determination to get it done However all the above I’m still an apprentice. Some of my suppliers love the fact that I aim to control situations, others definitely despise this. Some of my clients love the fact I talk with conviction and passion. Some hate it but still appreciate that it’s out of the vision of getting things right. Can you be all things to all people all the time? NO YOU CANNOT. Look at our Olympian’s they are niche (however we only see some of what they can do) but they are masters of their sport. The worst performance can still be a mighty heroic effort. The point I am badly making here is that we need to celebrate all that is good in the world. And there’s lots of it. The sheer scale of what it takes to pull off the Olympic Games, the detail that goes into lighting a space, the effort that goes into training for that qualification, the money that has to be made to build a business, the negotiating of legal teams to get an outcome, the risks taken by emergency profession to save a life, and the confidence it takes to sing infront of thousands of people. So the celebration is this. Everyone you meet is because of the effort of hundreds of thousands of people that went before us. So make those meetings meaningful and positive and ensure on a meaningful outcome. This chance that you meet people is millions to one so do not waste your greeting.

Sure, assuming the article in question covers St. Patrick's Day, here's a LinkedIn post you might use to share the insights from the article: --- Happy St. Patrick's Day, everyone! 🍀 Today isn't just about donning green attire or enjoying a pint of Guinness; it's steeped in rich history and cultural significance. An important survey...
Writer, poet, speaker; equity, diversity & inclusion consultant. Co-director of The Inclusion Agency.
There's still time to have a say, until the end of the month: Is your cultural heritage misrepresented by British museums? Are you represented in them at all? Do you want to be a part of how the cultural heritage of racially minoritised people is presented and communicated, with respect and celebration? Then this is your time to have a say! The UnMuseum Project, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, is an exploration into what a cultural heritage space would look like if it was built by and for Black and Racially Minoritised communities in the South West of England. With you, we want to change the landscape of cultural heritage in our region, but to do so we need your voices! This survey is a chance for you to shape how your people's histories and cultures are represented in a dedicated Centre for Black and Brown Culture - a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! Take a few minutes from your day to help change the future of the South West! https://lnkd.in/eChWSFQJ

What are you personally doing as a leader to support black talent? Cephas Williams is an inspiration to us all investing not just his own time (that he could spend with his own kids) but also his own 💵..but let’s be honest he shouldn’t need to as there should be more businesses that are willing to invest in greater equality. If you’re a leader in a business in the ad industry and you have a presence in #CannesLions this year, please think about supporting Cephas with his mission to create more opportunities for black talent. The very definition of leadership below.. 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼
“As many of you know, we received over 1,000 applications which was both overwhelming and inspiring, each showcasing remarkable achievements and aspirations. After many days and hours of review, we have come to a decision on the 50 people going. This has been a very difficult decision to make and please remember this is bigger than Cannes. The presence of the 50 that will go to the festival with us represents a much bigger idea and community. This decision was incredibly difficult due to the overwhelming number of great applications we received. It’s also deeply disheartening when we consider how deserving everyone was alongside the fact that I’ve had to do this with minimal support from the industry. However, the change I’m driving is greater than the resistance I’m facing. I questioned how much I give myself to this work when I heard my son cry real deep tears the other day because I wasn’t able to spend more time with him that evening, I reflect and think perhaps I’ve given too much of myself to this cause, but I remember what I wrote in Letter to Zion and how far away we are from the world I described to him in that letter. Across the last 3 years I have put over £90,000 of my own money into this work, I will now have taken over 100 Black people to the festival and supported their career growth in various ways. I’ve committed this money to not only see more Black people at the festival, but to see our people better connected across the industry. Last night I sent a further £35,000 from my savings to make this trip happen. I explain this not to be thanked but to be understood, when you see me in Cannes, understand what I stand for. My presence there carries a much greater meaning, my interest in seeing this change comes from a real place, because I care, because like many other leaders, I said I would commit to the change. This is why I put my money where my mouth is, this is not a competition for me neither is it a flex. This is a real message to the industry and its leaders. That message is simple, if you really turn over millions in profit, if you really have decision making power and if you really want to see the experience and trajectory of Black people change across the industry, don't just watch me, back me. Can we turn this 50 to 500? If I could take more people I would. But I can only afford to take just under 5% of those who applied. As much as we can only take 50, this is far from a competition, this is about a much bigger message to the industry and I seriously value everyone who has applied themselves to the work I do and this process. It’s not about individual success, it’s about collective growth and systemic change.” Follow The Black Network / Together We Are Stronger If you would like to support the work click here - https://lnkd.in/eegZMFDn
