I need some clarity here... I've noticed numerous private chefs, and "private chefs," who are neither Canadian nor American, boasting about their busy summer schedules abroad. Many hail from the UK (not you, James!) and Italy, for example. I recently spoke to a chef who claimed to have spent 10 years frequently traveling to North America for private chef assignments. As a Canadian with automatic B1/B2 visas in our passports, I find this puzzling. I can't understand how this is feasible for others when as a Canadian it’s virtually impossible without jumping through endless hoops. Could someone explain how foreign workers (excluding those in agricultural positions and primarily in the UHNW sector) are securing "summer positions" in the U.S. when they seemingly lack the legal right to work there? Are they obtaining a special visa? One that, from my research, the UK does not reciprocate? Or is there some other process I am unaware of? How is a British personal chef able to work in the USA for the summer without the highly challenging-to-acquire green card or work permits? I have some theories (working illegally, signed on a boat but working on land, "holiday"?). From my lifelong understanding, the U.S. maintains very stringent guidelines on who can work on their soil. I would appreciate some enlightenment, as seeing foreigners boast about their highly paid personal chef positions often evokes frustration. This reminds me of when I lost a coveted chalet position in Canada to a non-native British chef. When I approach agents in the UK, requesting they forward my CV in hopes that a client might assist with visa arrangements (which I assume the chalet did for the British chef), I am promptly dismissed. I firmly believe that if given the chance to demonstrate my skills in person, clients would be willing to help secure the necessary visas. This has happened before, albeit through a wealthy individual's workaround, but that foot never gets through the gatekeepers to the clients front door. I am very interested in understanding how this process works from agents or chefs themselves. Seeking enlightenment. #PrivateChefLife #WorkVisa #ImmigrationLaws #ChefCommunity #InternationalChefs #VisaChallenges #ChefLife #GlobalWork #CulinaryProfessionals #TravelAndWork #WorkAbroad #VisaIssues #ProfessionalChefs #CareerInsights
