Reading Lawrence's post brings me down memory lane. To start off "Nika's ClimateTech Diary", let us tell you about some of our experiences of African carbon projects. When Lawrence X. and I first started, a potential customer who was in charge of a large nature reserve was excited to pilot our technology for their carbon project. As one of our first leads, we were pumped and excited to finally have a breakthrough after weeks of rejections. We had several back-and-forth successful calls over a couple of weeks to discuss the project details to use our models to help them predict future carbon credit issuance and eventually work with them to build out their project. Everything was good. Then… radio silence. It was absolutely devasting. What went wrong? What could we have done better? After weeks, still nothing. With bruised egos, we pressed on with a lingering sense of bitter disappointment for all that wasted time. A little while later, we reconnected and learned we were ghosted not because the potential customer didn't want to work with us (in fact, they were still interested), but because they were incredibly busy protecting their Rhinos in the reserves from poachers!! That story hit us hard. The frustration melted away, replaced by a surge of empathy and a renewed sense of purpose. Here we were, two guys with big dreams of fixing the climate, and the reality on the ground was so much more raw, immediate, and dangerous. It was a wake-up call. Tech is powerful, but the human stories, the struggles – they fuel the real fight on the ground. That's why we're launching this blog – not just tech talk, but the heartbeat of climate action. We'll share stories of communities on the frontlines, everyday heroes making a difference, and the battles they wage. We want to showcase the unfiltered reality of how difficult some of these challenges can truly be. Do you have a similar experience you'd like to share? Share your stories down in the comments. #NikasClimateTechDiaries #realstories #startupgrowth
𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝘀: 𝗡𝗶𝗸𝗮.𝗲𝗰𝗼'𝘀 𝗨𝗻𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Johann Wah & I met at Amazon Web Services. We started as humble, wide-eyed intern buddies, scraping through the corporate barrels of internships and finally landing full-time gigs – a dream come true. But amidst the code and algorithms, our passion for nature pulled us away for long nature walks as we discussed our shared love for it, but also some of the destruction that we've seen. We decided we really couldn't just stand by. Fast forward a year, and Nika.eco was born. From pre-seed funding to R&D, it's been a wild ride (more on this later!). We've seen breathtaking mangroves replaced by shrimp farms, witnessed the highs of carbon markets, and the lows from deep-seated credibility issues. As a climate tech company in Singapore, it can be easy for us to sometimes get caught up in all the code, "AI" or convenient criticisms of communities or governments on why we can't "just" stop all of this in the face of climate change. I must admit, I too am guilty of often catching myself drifting into such mindsets from time to time. It's ironic, but we don't want Nika.eco to be your typical tech startup story. Through our customers and interactions, we've witnessed so much more of what tech can do, but also many real on-the-ground stories beyond just the "tech". This is going to be a LinkedIn blog that is dedicated to help me document some of these stories (or what isn't covered by NDAs at least haha!). Expect real customer experiences, climate tech struggles. failures and triumphs, actionable tips, and maybe even some passionate eco-rants. Join us on this adventure! P.S. What are YOUR biggest environmental concerns? Share in the comments! #Nikaeco #climatechange #climatetech #startupgrowth

🌟 Pathways to Tech Event Takeaways 🌟 I had the incredible opportunity to attend the Pathways to Tech Event, and it was an inspiring experience filled with valuable lessons from industry leaders. Here are my key takeaways: 🚀 Shariar Kabir (CEO of Ruby, YC 23): Rejection is a part of the journey. Luck plays a significant role, but you have to give yourself a chance to get lucky by persevering through failures. Failure is not the end; it's a stepping stone. Consistency and problem-solving skills are crucial, not just expertise in a specific technology. 💡 Nabeel Alamgir🦄 (CEO of LunchBox): Embrace setbacks and learn from mistakes. Growth comes from overcoming challenges, and each failure is an opportunity to improve and innovate. ❓ Dustin Beadle (Director at Lattice): The importance of asking questions cannot be overstated. Curiosity and a willingness to seek knowledge are essential for continuous learning and development. 🤝 Yasin Ehsan 🚀: Being a good team leader involves giving constructive feedback to peers. Collaboration and effective communication are key to a successful team dynamic. With Headstarter AI's recently announced partnership with Ruby, I am more motivated than ever to prioritize my time in the Fellowship to maximize my chances of getting hired by Ruby. My plan includes: -Actively participating in all internship activities to build a strong foundation and showcase my dedication. -Enhancing my problem-solving skills to be versatile and adaptable, beyond just mastering a specific language or technology. -Working on my leadership and feedback skills to contribute effectively to any team I am part of. -Embracing failures and rejections as learning opportunities and continuously striving to improve. A huge thank you to all the speakers for their insightful contributions and to the organizers(Headstarter AI) for making this event possible. Looking forward to implementing these learnings and growing through this Fellowship! 🚀 #TechEvent #PathwaysToTech #CareerGrowth #Networking #PersonalBranding #SWEHeadstarterFellowship
