🗓️ No matter what holidays you celebrate, the end of the calendar year is a time to reflect on all the good you’ve experienced this year and everything good you want to put into the world next year. For our Digital Organizing Manager Emmanuel Mammah, that looks like reflecting on the long-term relationships and bonds we create with our scholarship recipients and cohort members. More than just providing money, we make it our goal to support and uplift anyone who comes to our organization with a Dream. This is so important to us because we know that getting one of our scholarships is just one step in the long journey to success, and money means little without the support to make it go further. Whether that means sharing new resources to add to what we’ve given them, giving career advice and resume reviews, or taking time out of our busy schedules to hear their progress, we’re always going to be there. For those of you looking to to help someone else thrive in 2024 and pay forward the kind actions of everyone who has helped you in 2023, head to our 🎁 Gift Catalogue in and support someone else’s dream in becoming a reality. https://lnkd.in/dzbn5vyg

As we celebrate Youth Month we take pride in our commitment to uplifting and empowering the youth of South Africa. Through strategic investments and targeted programmes, we are creating opportunities for young individuals to secure employment, gain valuable skills, and build a better future. We’ve allocated R126.6 million toward bursaries, training programmes, internships, and learnerships. These initiatives provide financial support and practical experience to deserving youth across various fields. Additionally, our R22 million investment in the Youth Employment Service (YES) directly contributes to training and developing youth from our host communities, fostering job readiness and sustainable employment opportunities. Furthermore, our 24-month mentoring programme involves 126 employees, 89% of whom are black individuals (with 58% being black women), nurturing talent, enhancing skills, and guiding young professionals toward successful careers. Our commitment to the young people of Africa and beyond extends beyond financial investments. We believe that by nurturing talent, fostering inclusivity, and providing opportunities, we contribute to a stronger, more prosperous South Africa. Youth Month is a reminder that the youth are our greatest asset, and their success is intertwined with our collective progress. Join us in celebrating the resilience, creativity, and determination of South African youth. Together, we build a brighter tomorrow! Sending the Department of the Premier and Cabinet (Queensland)’s 50 Policy Futures Graduates out into the public service this week to start their rotations through departments. My advice to them last week: 🍍Public service is a verb. 🍍Political views are ok, even strongly held ones, as long as you leave them at the door and act impartially in your role. 🍍Give frank, fearless and sound advice. 🍍We serve the government of the day, but our first loyalty is to the people of Queensland. 🍍Process is part of public service- we deal with public money after all. But those who stand out use process to find a way to done and get results. 🍍There’s meaning and purpose in a public service career. But sometimes it takes a few role changes to find it. Don’t settle until you do. Life’s too short. #2024policyfutures #graduates

Enterprise Programme Director - inspiring and enabling young people to be a force for good in the world
Last week was quieter than usual as many people took time off over half-term. I spent it re-designing our corporate 'school engagement programme', and it's now better than ever. If your business is looking to achieve some real, evidence-based (and VERY fun!) local impact with young people in your community - then please look no further. Our Future Skills Programme brings businesses and students together in local schools for ten weeks of fun, engaging and highly valuable skills coaching and mentoring. Our impact over the last year has exceeded everything we could have imagined. Students have described it as 'life changing', and all of our schools and corporate partners have seen so much value in it that they're all running our programmes for a second (and third!) year in a row. Over the course of ten weeks, our programme helps vulnerable young people aged 14 to 15 to develop mindsets and skillsets to leave school with the opportunity of finding meaningful employment. It enables them to seek out careers aligned with their passions and purpose and in some case, they're able to launch their own small businesses before they even begin their GCSE's. We are in the midst of an education crisis. Thousands of students are leaving school each year without qualifications or the necessary skills to live a life on their own terms. The situation is even more dire for those young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Businesses have the power to change all of this, and our programme is a very simple step in the right direction. We work with all young people in the UK, but we have a particular focus on working in areas of multiple deprivation and with students most at risk of becoming NEET (not in employment, education or training), SEND pupils and those becoming increasingly disengaged with academia for a host of other reasons. This is a great chance for businesses to give something back to their communities, to reach a diverse pool of very talented young people, and to play an active role in the development of the next generation of thinkers, do-ers, innovators and change-makers. Get in touch to find out more about becoming a life-changing corporate supporter of our Future Skills Programme. It's a great way to kick off your week! 🙏

Volunteering isn’t just about lending a hand—it’s about shaping the next generation of leaders. Four weeks ago, Jane O’Keeffe (Senior Manager, University Relations), joined Raylene Cooke and Diana Gonzalez (Deakin University) and Adam Elhindi (University of Newcastle) at the Learning Abroad Forum to discuss how universities are redefining volunteering programs to deliver a profound, real-world learning experiences for students. The session offered valuable insights, including: - Volunteer (WIL) programs are immersive learning experiences, combining hands-on work with ethical, sustainable impact. - These programs contribute to students’ personal and professional development—building resilience, cross-cultural competence, and critical thinking skills. - The institutional benefits of adopting these programs, enhance both reputation and employability rankings. As education evolves, so do the ways we prepare students for the future. Together, let’s continue creating opportunities that extend beyond the classroom and nurture tomorrow’s global leaders.

One of the most challenging and fascinating duties of archivists is to bring younger generations to view their collections and thus to diffuse archival consciousness and strengthen historical memory. Designing and implementing educational programmes for different target groups is a demanding task. Public history is a shared field for archivists and historians.
We’re playing a key role in fostering the next generation’s love and care of Australian history. The Canberra Resource Immersion Program is helping teachers to bring the national archival collection into the classroom for Years 11 and 12 students of modern history. For the second year, the Learning and Visitor Experience team at the National Office is delivering the program, with curators providing a special insight into our permanent exhibitions. As part of a national approach to collaboration and service delivery, the Learning and Visitor Experience team play a vital role in helping young people to engage meaningfully with the story of our nation—now and into the future. The Canberra Resource Immersion Program is facilitated by the Royal Historical Society of Victoria and the National Capital Education Tourism Project. Students and teachers can find more about our school programs, educational resources, teacher professional learning and student competitions on our website: https://lnkd.in/g3_J6SPg
