Pleased to see another SC7 expedition underway. This brief but poignant discussion touches on the fact that the electric infrastructure that we rely on today to run SC’s economy and households took many decades to build and based on the blessings of economic growth is projected to need to double in a couple of decades or less! Think about that and ask yourself how is SC going to do it? As these two leaders discuss - we must do it and with balance and leadership.
Another great day on the trail. Southcarolina7.com

3/7/24 Update: SHE DID IT!! 💪 Cole sailed into Spain in the early morning hours today! Fun fact: Cole's boat is named First Light, and she intentionally slowed down her pace to come in at "first light", versus darkness, in honor of her trusted partner that brought her safely back to shore. Original post: Things I'm learning from Cole Brauer: 1. Sometimes growth happens in the tightest spaces. 2. Making room for the softer parts of life (like fleece blankets) allows you the comfort to be human, even if it means they take up space. 3. Be yourself, you don't need to be anyone else. 4. Connection (even from afar )makes you stronger. 5. Winds and waves will happen. Allow yourself to scream, cry and be frustrated. And then...get back on course. 💪 Read below for more about how Cole is about to be the first American female to complete a solo sail around the world! #gocolego!

If you are a San Francisco racer, you may know about the Lightship Race, which is the first in a ten-race series for the Ocean Yacht Racing Association (OYRA). The race is a 22 nm out and back race, starting and finishing off St. Francis YC. The buoy is about 12 miles offshore, and marks the official entrance to the shipping channel, so all commercial traffic going from north, south or east turn at this mark to enter SF Bay. It's called the Lightship because it used to be an actual ship, or floating lighthouse. The last one in service at that location was lightship "Relief." There's no bell atop, but racer Alice Watts says it, "moans every five seconds or so, with the most hollow-sounding, depressed, lonesome moan you can imagine." More about lightships: Lightships originated in the early 17th century, arising from the need to establish seamarks in positions where lighthouses were (at that time) impracticable. The first lightship was established in 1732 at Nore Sand in the Thames estuary. Early vessels were small converted merchant or fishing vessels showing lanterns suspended from crossarms at the masthead. Not until 1820 were vessels built specifically as lightships. #sailing #sailbuoys #shipping #navigation 📷 The Lightship cheering section, aka "White Shark tidbits." ©2014 Pat Broderick

It may come as a surprise to learn how much I enjoy the month of July (especially since I live in South Texas and it is really hot). My love for July is powered in party by the fact that the Tour de France spans the majority of the month. There are so many things to enjoy about the Tour. For one thing, the cyclists are really fast, and it is incredible to see how quickly they can climb mountains (and safely descend them). The attacks and strategy are fascinating and the competitions within the competition are hard to beat. Although only a few of the nearly two hundred riders stand a chance to wear the yellow jersey, there are so many other things to compete for. Riders compete for stage wins, and each stage presents its own set of challenges that some riders fare better at facing. Time trials, mountains, sprint stages, and mountain stages with sprint-style finishes are just a few of the options. I am a little embarrassed to admit it but the drama is interesting. Will your favorite sprinter finish this mountain stage within the time cutoff? The cutoff is a moving target determined by the time it takes the first rider to finish the stage, by the way. Will a rider come back from an accident arguably caused by another rider? Will a rider fall in line and help his teammate who stands a better chance of winning the stage and/or the Tour? Lastly, I love learning more about the history and geography of France, and beyond. Les vues sont incroyables. Do you enjoy watching the Tour de France? Do you have a favorite memory? 24 MAY, NATIONAL ROAD TRIP DAY: Well, I'll be darned and what do you know! Would you believe that every Friday before Memorial Day is National Road Trip Day? How great is that? Roadtrips are one of my favorite pastimes, even if it's a Colorado staycation our just an afternoon drive through the switchbacks. Honestly, that I live 15 minutes east of several roads going up into them there hills and a 20 minute drive from where I-70 starts its first climb... well, that's no accident and one of the main reasons I call Colorado home. There's nothing like being out on the road, windows down, hair slapping your face and music howling with the wind. Or, taking a roadtrip with somebody and stumbling across states from one roadside attraction to another. As they say, it's not about the destination but the journey. So, whatever you choose to do this weekend, Take the long way home so you can surprise yourself with an adventure or two... and, as always, be safe out there! DRAGON BOAT RACES: FUN FACTS 🐲 Fact 1: Did you know that the original purpose of the dragon boat was to scare the fish away? The legend says that thousands of years ago, a famous Chinese poet, Qu Yuan, was accused of treason and drowned himself tragically in the Min-Lo River. To prevent the fish from eating his body, the villagers drove the dragon boat to scare the fish away. Fact 2: Wood is still used to build dragon boats. Traditional dragon boats are still made of wood. However, the racing boats are mostly made of glass fibre, which makes them lighter than wooden boats and allows the paddlers to row faster!
