Last week, as shared by Johnny Roetter, we successfully retrieved two slugs of 31 containers back to back within a span of two days from the Norfolk Southern Rail. These 62 containers arrived on different days, with 31 arriving on Wednesday with a Last Free Day (LFD) on Thursday, and the other 31 arriving on Thursday with an LFD on Friday. Initially, we encountered a slight problem with these containers designated for pickup, as we received the pickup numbers late from our customer, leading to the containers ending up on their Last Free Day. Despite deploying 18 drivers for the task, a few containers had to be placed into storage at the rail, resulting in our customer incurring storage charges. To rectify this, our customer paid the storage fees via credit card. However, we were pleasantly surprised to discover that Norfolk Southern had revised their policy: if containers in storage are retrieved before 8 am the following day, they reimburse the storage charges. Despite our outgating occurring after 8 am, The Norfolk Southern promptly reimbursed our customer the very next day because our drivers were in before 8 am the following day, showcasing their commitment to service improvement at the NS Landers ramp. It's evident that Norfolk Southern is actively enhancing their processes at the NS Landers ramp. Reports from various sources have highlighted incidents where crane operators solicited money from drivers for container handling services. In response, a senior representative of Norfolk Southern disclosed plans to address this issue by considering the installation of signage at the truck entrance, encouraging individuals to report such activities.
