being 'right' is overrated, and being 'weird' or 'dramatic’ is underrated. A client said something to me recently that made me laugh out loud because it is so TRUE. “They think they will win (customers) by being right.” We were talking about the tendency to cram information - studies, footnotes and empirical evidence - to persuade people to take action. I see this a lot when I work with technical founders and folks in the climate and not for profit sectors. They’re experts in their field! And they want to convince people based on the facts 👩🔬 🖤 But unfortunately we humans are soooo illogical and emotionally driven! It’s easy to fall into this trap. We become so familiar with the logical reasons that people should buy a product that we miss the opportunity to tell a better story. My takeaway: don’t get so deep in the worthiness of the cause or the logic of a decision that you miss creative opportunities to tell a good (or weird, or funny!) story. The best stories win. Don’t start with the facts. Start with the pain people are feeling and the stories that show a new way forward and then add drama, drama, drama. ___ Need help getting more dramatic? I’m Amanda. I help folks tell the right stories to the world to drive business results.

Join me as I dive into the psychology of fear and uncover 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐆𝐨𝐝𝐳𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚 𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐫 𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐛𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞! In this video, I explore the absence of color and how it amplifies terror, the power of shadows in creating suspense, and the historical context that gives black and white movies their realistic, documentary style. I also analyzed the effects using examples from classic films like 𝑅𝑎𝑔𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝐵𝑢𝑙𝑙, 𝑃𝑠𝑦𝑐ℎ𝑜, and 𝑆𝑐ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑑𝑙𝑒𝑟'𝑠 𝐿𝑖𝑠𝑡, old black and white horror movies like 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝐵𝑙𝑎𝑐𝑘 𝐶𝑎𝑡 and 𝑁𝑜𝑠𝑓𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑢, and contemporary black and white movies like 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝐿𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑠𝑒 and 𝐴 𝐹𝑖𝑒𝑙𝑑 𝑖𝑛 𝐸𝑛𝑔𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑑. Discover how these elements combine to make the Godzilla films a terrifying experience.
