Bangladesh is planning to introduce an online cattle identification and registration system, marking a significant step in livestock management. Under the “Bangladesh Integrated Network for Livestock Information (BINLI)” pilot program, 50,000 cattle will be registered by 2025. Each registered animal will be tagged with a barcode, allowing customers to access comprehensive information, like the breed, dietary preferences, vaccination history, and health records of the cattle. This digital identification system aims to streamline vaccination, treatment, and overall livestock management. Additionally, it will facilitate the export of meat and livestock products by providing importers with essential cattle history. Some registered cattle will also be covered by insurance, protecting livestock owners from losses due to death or disability. The initiative focuses on 16 upazilas with high cattle production.

Both cattle and humans are very important because both need each other. Overgrazing can force livestock to eat poisonous plants. Clearing of pastures is very important under the forest laws. When the number of desirable plants are low for animals, they try to eat every plant. Overgrazing occurs when cattle do not have the plants they need. They also eat plants that are harmful to their health. Before they have had a chance to fully recover from the previous grazing, they move back to the same field. Overgrazing is not only harmful to the natural balance of the land but also to the livestock. When cattle become ill, get them checked by a doctor immediately so that they can recover quickly. Remember that healthy people do not drink or use milk and meat of the sick cattle. Because if a disease is contracted by a person from animal meat or milk, its effects are very deep on human life. Check where you buy milk from, and to see if the milk they are getting from the animals is hygienic and healthy and also have a look on the milkman who is selling the milk, is he in compliance with hygiene standards? In the same way, thoroughly investigate the meat because the friendship of both cattle and man is very important because both need each other. #lovehumanity #healthofcattleandhumanbothmatters #hygienestandards #fda #overgrazing

Some key points to bear in mind this time of year to help with the welfare of livestock and control of your dog in the free outside air: If you come across a sheep on its back, try to roll it over and raise the alarm with the farmer if this is possible. It is so important to keep dogs either on leads or under close control around livestock. If you are walking your dog in a field and there is no livestock, please keep the dog in sight at all times, be aware of what it is doing, and be confident it will return to you promptly on command. If you cannot be confident of this, the dog should not be off the lead. Ensure the dog does not stray off the path or area where you have right of access. It is a criminal offence for a dog to actively worry livestock. We want owners to be aware that in such instances, the owner or person in control of the dog can be prosecuted, and as a last resort the dog can be shot by the farmer to end an attack. https://lnkd.in/ee-_mevW

Isle of Man Farmers Call for Tougher Penalties After Surge in Dog Attacks on Livestock The Isle of Man is grappling with a significant issue as farmers report an alarming increase in attacks on livestock by dogs. In 2023 alone, at least 26 sheep were killed and up to 90 others injured due to these attacks, prompting strong reactions from the Manx National Farmers Union (MNFU). They've expressed frustration over the current limitations in legislation that governs livestock protection, describing the courts as constrained in dealing effectively with such incidents. A government spokesperson acknowledged the severity of the situation and announced plans to organize meetings to thoroughly discuss the matter. The objective is to explore potential options for strengthening existing legislation. The MNFU has specifically called for amendments to the Dog Act, advocating for measures that would empower law enforcement to more effectively investigate and prosecute dog owners whose pets harm livestock. Proposed changes include enhancing maximum penalties, enabling the seizure of dogs involved in attacks, and imposing stricter regulations, such as mandatory leash requirements near agricultural areas. The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture (DEFA) has affirmed its awareness of these proposals and has already initiated discussions with farmers. Further meetings are scheduled involving the MNFU and the police to address this pressing issue comprehensively. The plight of farmers, who report feelings of anger, stress, fear, distress, frustration, sadness, and bewilderment over these attacks, underscores the urgency for swift legislative action. As the Isle of Man moves forward, stakeholders are committed to finding effective solutions that safeguard livestock and alleviate the anxieties of farmers who rely on the island's agricultural sector for their livelihoods. https://lnkd.in/dt6iACzZ
