🌊🛳️ 𝗦𝗛𝗜𝗣 𝗟𝗔𝗨𝗡𝗖𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚 🛳️🌊 🚢 In addition to the ship's size and weight, launching places stresses on the ship that are not encountered during regular operation. It also serves as a public spectacle and a significant engineering challenge. 🍷 Numerous customs are also part of the procedure that are meant to bring good fortune, like christening, which entails smashing a sacrificial bottle of champagne over the bow as the ship is christened out loud and launched. 🌊 Only the two "launching" techniques are among the three main ways to move a new ship from the construction site to the ocean. 1️⃣ The end-on launch, in which the ship slides down an inclined slipway, typically stern first, is the most traditional, well-known, and frequently utilized. 2️⃣ The ship enters the sea broadside with the side launch. This technique was first applied to lakes, rivers, and inland streams in the 19th century, and it gained popularity during World War II. 3️⃣ For ships constructed in dry docks or basins, the third technique is called float-out, which involves allowing water to enter the dock and allowing the ship to float. 🎬 Watch these amazing ship launch procedures now. 📌Unshared knowledge will vanish! 🎗 Share, like, and comment for others to see. If you are interested in a new concept in SHM using the connected autonomous vehicle data you may want to read this interesting work done by Dr. Hoofar Shokravi, our postdoctoral researcher in civil engineering faculty of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. #shm #damage #utm #bridge
Our recent paper, as the first-ever methodology for SHM of Roadway Bridges using Connected Autonomous Vehicle (CAV) Data, is published in the prestigious "Computer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering" journal. This collaborative effort between Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and Western Sydney University presents "In-Fleet SHM," a novel approach that leverages CAVs' mobility data for bridge monitoring, paving the way for "Network-level SHM." This concept transcends traditional Component-Level and System-Level SHM (local and global damage detection) by offering a comprehensive framework for transportation network-wide bridge assessment, a pioneering development in the field. We invite you to explore this innovative work and share your insights. A heartfelt thanks to the co-authors for their invaluable contributions and collaboration, and to the esteemed editor of the journal for his guidance and support in publishing our work.

Politics & democracy there an every day thing. The two main parties, are anyone of them really worth it? So what changes are available.
The need for safer, more sustainable engineering has never been more urgent. As we face climate challenges and societal shifts, it's encouraging to see how engineering evolves to create solutions that positively impact our communities. Here are a few actionable steps we can all take to contribute to a safer world through engineering: 1. Support projects that prioritize sustainability and ethical practices. 2. Educate ourselves and others about the importance of safety in engineering processes. 3. Participate in local initiatives that leverage engineering solutions for community benefit. By embracing these actions, we not only help foster a safer and more sustainable environment but also inspire others to join the movement. Let's champion innovative engineering practices that not only solve problems but embrace the diverse voices of everyone involved. What practices or experiences have you come across that contribute to a safer world? Share your tips! https://lnkd.in/euWTce59

Researchers from the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials have unveiled a groundbreaking wheel inspired by water droplets, capable of changing shape in real-time to adapt to challenging terrains. This innovative design, led by Jae-Young Lee, utilizes a “smart chain” structure that mimics the behavior of molecules within a liquid droplet, allowing the wheel to switch between circular and flexible states. By adjusting the tension in the wheel's wire spokes, the wheel can transform to smoothly traverse flat surfaces or deform to conquer obstacles like stairs and rocks. Demonstrated on both a four-wheeled vehicle and a two-wheeled wheelchair, this adaptable wheel shows immense potential for revolutionizing off-road vehicles and robots designed for rugged environments. The technology could significantly enhance search and rescue missions, exploration in difficult landscapes, and off-road transportation systems. #InnovativeDesign #Robotics #OffRoadVehicles #TerrainAdaptation #SmartTechnology #KIMM #SearchAndRescue #TransportationTech #ShapeShiftingWheel #Engineering
