It's the 3rd week of school in Tennessee and while families are settling in to the school year, it's important to note that building an effective home-shool partnership is important for your child's success. Children do their best when they have the skills, support, and motivation to do so. By collaborating with your child’s school, you increase opportunities for your child to get the support they need. In a recent CommonWealth Beacon, Chris Smith (Boston After School & Beyond) and Matthew Brunell (Springfield Empowerment Zone Partnership) write, "Every young person deserves to have access to after-school and summer programs because school alone is no longer sufficient for closing opportunity and achievement gaps.” They argue that Massachusetts should amplify financial support for programs like EVkids and that the investment is well worth it: studies show that every dollar invested in quality after-school programs yields a $3 increase in earning potential. Us: Why do you like TVM? Scholars: Because there’s no boringness! In TVM, Mahea Gaskins has all the scholars say “We are allergic to boring!” Our method of family #engagement attracts parents to be involved in their child’s learning experience. This creates the bridge to then engage families in the #school and #community. That’s the goal! Research has proven that when parents are more active and engaged with their child’s academic journey…the behavior, attendance and grades improve as well. This is just one of the differences that partnering with a full-service community building organization provides.
The Village Method (TVM) is a strategic partner for school districts, designing sustainable, holistic educational solutions. Through programs like ScholarPrep Nation, ASHE, and First Teachers Collaborative, TVM offers end-to-end service from strategic planning to implementation, significantly reducing administrative burdens for our partners. This is a Win, Win, Win! The community, school and (most importantly) the children all WIN with our Community Builders Initiative. Let’s do it again!

Executive Producer @ Scope & Sequence | Messaging Strategist | Policy Education | Author of Fair is Fair - A children's book
In this video that Scope & Sequence created with Beacon Center of Tennessee, we tackle the questions: What are charter schools and who are they for? Turns out there are a lot of misconceptions. I learned a bunch from working on this video. I think if we were to remake this video today, I might swap the term "Public School" with "Government School" Per what I've gleaned from Corey DeAngelis. #charterschools #schoolchoice #spn #publicschools #educationpolicy #doe #educationreform #explainervideo #mythbusters
