Sherry Armijo is a proud alumna of Leadership Tri-Cities (LTC) class 1. “I was part of the first class in 1994 – 1995 – it's amazing to see how the program has grown and changed over time.” Sherry started her career in sales and eventually rose to become a sales manager and then the Vice President of Sales at Abadan. Abadan was established in 1953 and provides businesses of all sizes with technology-related solutions. 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 When asked what she has learned about leadership in her career, she said: “Leadership can take on so many different facets, it's about helping another person be the best that they can be. So, whatever you can do to help someone else elevate, I think that's leadership.” Her advice to those who find themselves at the start or at any stage of their career is to seek out people they admire: “I think it's super important to seek out people that you admire. Seek out people that are doing it and make a connection.” She went on to explain how much she has learned from people she admires and the lifelong relationships she has made because she was willing to take that first step by reaching out to them. Leadership Tri-Cities was one of those steps, “I met some amazing people that I would not have ever met and become lifelong friends with…it was very eye-opening and worthwhile.” 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐓𝐫𝐢-𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 1 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 Leadership Tri-Cities class 1 project was to help the local Children’s Museum which, at the time, was suffering from a lack of funds and was about to lose their lease. “Our project was so fulfilling and so much fun. The folks that ran the children's museum were always on a tight budget and were going to lose their lease. So, we helped them find a new spot which was in a community center.” Her class also helped build new exhibits including a boat, kitchen, and dress-up area for the kids. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 Commenting on LTC’s impact on the community, she notes: “The underlying charter of LTC holds today as it did when it started. If you take like-minded motivated community members who care about the community and educate them on the details of what's really going on in all our major sectors, then those folks become stronger leaders and better advocates. By having stronger leaders, you're going to have a stronger community.” Overall, Sherry found the experience to be worthwhile saying: “I'm just honored to have been a member of LTC. I don't even know what adjective to use.
