A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed by Forcys and SH Defence, part of SH Group, aiming to explore the integration of Forcys’ advanced solutions into SH Defence’s Cube™ Modular Mission Capability system. 🤝 The signing took place during the Combined Naval Event (CNE) in Farnborough, UK, with Ioseba Tena, Managing Director of Forcys, and Jimmy Gehring Sales Director of SH Defence, in attendance. Forcys integrates and brings to the defence market world-changing solutions from leading technology partners Chelsea Technologies, EIVA a/s, Sonardyne Inc., Voyis, and Wavefront Systems. STM, Türkiye’s naval engineering power, has been given system procurement and platform integration responsibility for the Mid-Life Modernization of the Gür-Class Submarines (Type-209/1400) in the inventory of the Turkish Naval Forces. Critical navigation, mechanical and communication systems on board the Gür-Class Submarines will be modernised with modern national capabilities, thus extending their service life. Under the leadership of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye, Defence Industry Agency (SSB), STM Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik ve Ticaret A.?. – a key player in Türkiye’s defence sector and in the development of national-modern technologies – continues to take critical tasks in the modernization of the Navy’s submarines – as one of the key strike power of the Turkish Armed Forces. An important milestone has been reached in the Preveze and Gür-Class submarine (Type 209/1400) programmes, as the backbone of the Submarine Command in the Blue Homeland. A Contract Amendment adding operations related to the Gür-Class Submarine Mid-Life Modernization Program to the content of the Preveze-Class Submarine Mid-Life Modernization Program, was signed between the STM-ASELSAN-ASFAT-HAVELSAN Joint Venture (JV) and the SSB on 17 January, 2024. In the first phase of the renewed programme, the JV will modernise some of the critical navigation, machinery and communication systems on board the Gür-Class Submarines. The program, in which STM is undertaking responsibility for system procurement and platform integration, is expected to be completed in 6 years. In addition to the procurement and integration activities outlined in the Preveze-YÖM project, platform integration of the Domestically Produced Integrated Combat Management System (MÜREN) aboard the PREVEZE-Class Submarines and ADVENT MÜREN Combat Management Systems aboard GÜR-Class Submarines are also carried out under the responsibility of STM. The Turkish Navy has four Gür-Class Submarines, first of which were commissioned in 2004. In the Mid-Life Modernization Program of Preveze-Class Submarines initiated by the SSB in 2019, acceptance of the Inertial Navigation System, CTD Probes, Chilled Water System and Static Inverters, which have been procured and integrated on board TCG PREVEZE by STM, was completed in 2023, and the modernization of the submarines under the project continues. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/gTc_veKK

Intermarine S.p.A. (IMMSI industrial group – IMS.MI) and Leonardo S.p.a. (LDO.MI) – in the form of a Temporary Grouping of Companies – entered into a contract with the Directorate of Naval Armaments of the General Secretariat of Defence and National Armaments Directorate for the procurement of Vessels for research and clearance of sea mines – New Generation Minehunters/Coastal (NGM/C) and related integrated logistical support, for a value of 1.6 billion euros, for the delivery of 5 Vessels and an addition of approximately 1 billion options for the completion of the program. Intermarine’s share of the committed tranche is 1.165 billion euros, corresponding to approximately 73% and the one of Leonardo is approximately 0.43 billion euros, which corresponds to approximately 27%. A similar breakdown applies to the optional tranche. Intermarine, with the role of leader of the Temporary Grouping of Companies, is the design authority of the Naval Units and will provide the platform system; Leonardo is the design authority and supplier of the combat system. The contract signed today is the result of a process characterized by massive investments in research and development on new materials and innovative and cutting-edge manufacturing technologies. It follows an intense preliminary studies activity following the contract signed in 2021 between Intermarine and the Directorate of Naval Armaments focused on “Risk reduction studies and definition of the NGM Vessel project”. Thanks to the New Generation Minehunters program, the Italian Navy will rely on innovative Minehunters with the most modern construction techniques and advanced combat system based on high level of integration and automation of operations. The New Generation Minehunters will represent a unique and most modern solution worldwide in terms of operational capabilities and cutting-edge technologies in the specialistic sector of seabed surveillance and protection of critical underwater infrastructures. Designing & engineering next generation naval defence platforms. The key challenges for the next generation naval defense platforms are the evolving operational environment and the diversity of threats.

OCCAR (Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation) has exercised an option for building the fourth new-generation submarine related to the U212NFS (Near Future Submarine) program for the Italian Navy (Marina Militare Italiana), which was assigned to FINCANTIERI. The unit has a total value of approximately 500 million euros, including the related Integrated Logistic Support and In-Service Support. The signature also activates all other options that complete the maintenance support for the submarines already contracted. The U212NFS submarines will by highly innovative, with significant design modifications that will all be developed independently by Fincantieri, which holds the role of Design Authority and Prime Contractor, in accordance with the Navy requirements. The program responds to the need to secure adequate underwater spatial surveillance and control capacity, considering the future complex scenarios of underwater operations and the fact that the end of the operational lifetime of the four “Sauro” class submarines currently in service is drawing near. The U212NFS submarines will also join the four operational U212A class submarines, including the Romei which is currently undergoing scheduled maintenance at the Muggiano shipyard. The European Defence Agency (EDA) has embarked on a transformative journey by launching a new phase of its Next-Generation Minesweeping Project. This ambitious project, aimed at revolutionizing maritime security, underscores the importance of safeguarding naval operations from the ever-evolving threat of naval mines. As adversaries develop more sophisticated underwater threats, the EDA’s initiative is a crucial step toward enhancing the safety and effectiveness of naval missions across Europe and beyond.

On April 6-7, Eckhard Uhrbrock, a contributor to Shipspotting, posted updates on the construction progress of  Singapore’s fourth submarine at the shipyard in Kiel, northern Germany, owned by ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS). The submarine’s hull construction appeared to be nearing completion. The  Singaporean government has ordered four diesel submarines from TKMS shipyard in Germany in two batches, with the first two ordered in 2013 followed by the remaining two in 2017. These Type 218SG submarines have a weight of 2,000 tons, a length of 70 meters, and a maximum submerged weight of 2,200 tons. Named RSS Inimitable, the fourth submarine follows the first submarine, RSS Invincible, the second, RSS Impeccable, and the third, RSS Illustrious. The Invincible-class submarines, formally classified as the Type 218SG submarines, is a class of conventionally-powered attack submarines, ordered by the  Republic of Singapore Singapore Navy (RSN) from German-based naval conglomerate ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS). The Type 218SG is an extensively-customised derivative of the export-oriented Type 214 submarine, with specific design characteristics drawn from Type 212 submarines. They feature several capabilities, including a substantial level of automation, a significant payload capacity, enhanced underwater endurance and superlative ergonomics.  Singapore’s Ministry of Defense (MINDEF) ordered a total of four Type 218SG submarines, as a replacement to the RSN’s existing Challenger-class and Archer-class submarines. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak #submarine #singapore https://lnkd.in/gXGRXdZG

Modularity is not new in shipbuilding and takes many forms and concepts. In this article we write about how ship design and software can offer navies flexibility and adaptability to reconfigure to changing operational tasks and be adaptable to future threats and new technology adaptation. Ultimately, our mission and our vision is to enable navies to reap the benefits of modularity.
