Unfortunately, there’s no denying that a sales role can often carry a negative connotation. So when I accepted my current job, I found myself a little reluctant with sharing my title to others. Why? Because for me, this “sales” role is not at all about meeting a quota or pushing services on people. This role is about ensuring every person in this country receives the highest quality of healthcare they deserve and have worked so hard for. But that level of care isn’t received if there aren't enough people to take care of them. Now, your mind may be wandering to the shortages of physicians and nurses. And while they’re a large piece of the puzzle, there’s a heck of a lot more people working behind the scenes to also deliver care to patients. Ghosted emails and quick phone drops - yes, they can be disheartening. But that's because I care and know what we [Medasource] have to offer; and man is it essential. So, instead of telling people my actual job title right off the bat, I first explain to them that I make sure health systems have all the right people, in the right place, at the right time, to provide the highest quality of care to their patients. As a former #RegionalSalesManger, who transitioned to a #MedicalSalesRecruiter, I know what #Leaders are looking for in their next hire. You must take #initiative if you want to get into this space. ☝ Having the ability to initiate things independent of someone telling you what to do, is a critical skill set managers are looking for when hiring. ✌ As a sales rep, you will work on your own 90% of the time so if you need someone to tell you what to do then medical sales might not be the best fit. 🖖 There will be circumstances that you will have to take charge and resolve difficult situations. This is especially true in medical sales. 🖐 Guess what ... this is a skill set that can be developed. If you take the initiative and put in the work to get into this space, you will never look back. ❤️ If I hadn't taken the initiative to reach out to those 50 external recruiters that Paul Pappas sent to me all those years ago, who knows where I would be today! Healthcare Sales One of the missed opportunities in furniture is in the hiring of healthcare sales reps. A great place to source these folks is from the healthcare industry itself. An ER nurse can make a great sales rep and heres why: 1. They know how the healthcare environment works. They know all of the day to day issues they face and how they environment can make their jobs easier or harder. 2. They are already in a service role and usually know how to handle people better than most. 3. They are used to working in a demanding environment. 4. Many healthcare professionals are burnt out and would love to work in a world of sales.

Recently, I’ve had clients I am working with ask me for some tips and tricks as it relates to starting a new role as a sales rep. These particular clients were clinical reps transitioning to TM/AE roles. I am going to share 2 of many ideas that come to mind: First- Make friends 🤝 with your counterparts to the north, south, east, west of you 🧭 You never know when you’re going to need one of your colleagues help you with the favor in a distant part of your territory or where you can help them drop something off, etc. in their territory. That said, often times where territories come together, sometimes you may be responsible for a 🏥 within a health system, and your neighboring rep colleague might be responsible for another 🏥 in that same health system. It’s very important to establish a good relationship with your rep neighbors! This also helps build morale/rapport within your own team and demonstrates good teamwork! Your manager will love this! Another thought that comes to mind is partnering up with other like-minded reps that work in the same space(but aren’t direct competitors)! I have always made numerous rep friends that call 📞 on the same physicians and play in the same sandbox. These reps and I would get together to collaborate and bounce ideas off of one another, help make introductions to physicians, nurses,etc. 🥼 that we each had relationships with, and we each acted as a set of additional 👀 and 👂 as it relates to competitors coming into our respective hospitals.
