Whole life - ESG - Net Zero - Digital Transformation - Operational Built Environment/FM

🚨 40% of FM professionals are set to retire in the next 8 years! 🚨 I often discuss digital transformation and next-gen operations, but this statistic highlights a pressing challenge—8 years is not enough time to close that gap. This eye-opening stat from Sherif Maged is a wake-up call for all of us in the industry. We need to accelerate our efforts to train, recruit, and retain talent, while embracing digital innovations to ensure a seamless transition and continued growth in the field. 💡 #FacilitiesManagement #FutureOfWork #TalentGap #DigitalTransformation #NextGenOps #Leadership #IndustryChallenges #WorkforceDevelopment

I should have waited a little time - this stat is already 2 years old - the clock ⏰ is already ticking louder

The IWFM Rising FMs Network (UK) and our Regions have been recruiting for Rising Champions across each of the regions in recent months and our Regional Chairs are currently reviewing applications. Those champions as volunteers will need support in promoting FM across all areas of the UK. We will be seeking FM organisations to work with us to promote FM as a career of choice. Promoting careers in Facilities Management, talking to schools, attending school career fairs, offering work experience and encouraging apprenticeships in FM then providing volunteer led mentorship from current FM professionals and support to those individuals to support them on their career journey but also develop their Network that will be continuing the work of today and tackiling the challenges of tomorrow. The Network are calling for any support and expertise that can be offered by the FM industry to continue conversations about sustaining the future skills need in our industry and closing the skills gap. We need to engage with our current network and come together to find the solutions for the future. Feel free to share your thoughts with the IWFM Rising FMs Network (UK) and talk to your Regional Network about how you may be able to support them.

40% of FM professionals are set to retire in the next 8 years! There is going to be a knowledge gap in the industry. With sufficient data we might be able to activate AI to assist in decision making, work planning etc etc but there is something important that we have to do now and that is to establish the FM data management strategy and framework. Past, current and the need for future data must be secured and validated before we feed it to AI and fill the potential gap in 8 years.

This will have a devastating affect on the Facilities Management - and odd that the institute has been unable to do anything about it... instead of encouraging, promoting early career professionals into the sector, they've been losing all the ones with all those years of experience. AI is not going to solve the issue for us, it has no emotional intelligence and FM is a people business and needs qualified and well trained people (some algorithms are going to help speed up some processes, but AI cant handle handles, (and FM has a lot of handles to handle.)

Stop the clock! Facilities management has been facing it's own demographic extinction level event since at least (checks cover) March 2012...

Our Plan B for FM Mentoring program is tackling this in terms of connecting and supporting women mentees with experienced mentors. We're always keen to hear from potential mentees (women) and mentors (women and men) who'd like to join this global, free of charge mentoring community. Message me for more details 😀

A really interesting stat. Digitalisation will help of course but trained professional staff will always be the priority. Succession planning, industry training, marketing the industry, apprenticeships etc all must be priorities.

It’s important we introduce young people to work experience in Facilities Management so that they can learn about FM and the workplace and make this their career of choice

This is a very important issue to address. Shows how important IWFM Rising FMs Network (UK) is to the future of UK facilities management. 🙌
