I had a candidate - let’s call him Max - who was at his company 11 years. But the spark was gone. Max felt my client would provide the type of culture, growth and energy he was no longer yearning for at his current employer. He was open to meeting. They hit it off. My client really liked Max. They liked him so much that they suggested he meet the side of the business that was a completely new sector for him. He didn't have all of the necessary skills but he seemed to love the idea of working there. Then the offer came round. Max wasn’t sure. He had a lot to think about. He’s been with his employer since he was out of school. He knew his role inside and out. This new position would be almost entirely new. He was comfortable at his employer. How was he supposed to tell them - this employer who was apart of his entire career - that he’s now leaving? We really weren’t sure he was ready to leave. We chatted back and forth multiple times, even negotiated the offer just how he wanted it. He took many days to think. Finally, he called me late on a Friday and told me “something you said really struck me. You told me sometimes comfort is the enemy.... and you know, you’re right. There IS a reason I’m interviewing”. He told me right at that moment that he would accept the offer. He made a great choice for him. It got me a thinking. How many times have we passed up an opportunity of growth, for fear? I get it, we’ve all been there. Probably too many times if we're honest. But let’s remind ourselves to try a little less "hanging on" and more jumping and finding our wings on the way down! #buildyoufuture #buildrecruitment #constructioncareer

We all remember our first paycheck, but how often do we stop to appreciate the person who gave us the first chance of our career - the FIRST JOB? You could have been easily passed over. You could have been one of the countless applications that were ignored because your resume didn’t have enough bullets or titles. But they took a chance ↗️ They saw potential, they saw someone who could learn, someone who could grow, and someone who could add value - 'even if it didn’t show up on paper.' And let me tell you - "there is nothing like someone believing in you when you haven’t proven a single thing yet." Never forget the person who took a risk on you when you had no proof, no track record. They gave you the first chance to learn, to grow, to make mistakes and, most importantly, to succeed. ✴️ Because that moment - that belief in you was everything!!! #FirstEmployer #Gratitude #CareerGrowth #CareerJourney #FirstChance

9 Things You Really Need to Stop Bragging About – Disagree with a few of these. Spouses, kids, grandkids, pets and vacations are something you are welcome to brag about. The one I agree with is, “Your vices.” Posting photos of you at the nightclub on LinkedIn is career suicide. Keep it professional. Adding two of my favorites here. First, “I’m So Honored!” It’s fine to have other people sing your praises, however posting your latest award comes across as self-focused. Second, “My Company is SOOOO Awesome!” Actually, they are not. They are one more “for profit” business, and you are a consulting company of one that is on their payroll. When they are done with you…they are done with you. Ask the dozens of senior level executives sending me resumes every week. Many were laid off after 15 or 20 years. Always remember this: The company takes care of the company. https://lnkd.in/ggYy6avp

https://lnkd.in/e82Vv7xp Let me preface my saying I have zero affiliation to or connection with James. The video, particularly lesson seven, chimed with me for all sorts of reasons and it directly reflects something I have long said to clients. The majority of clients I have worked with over many years have a default assumption that the work we do together will result in tools that will almost certainly secure them a job. I have always said that they should assume the opposite. You may be asking, why on earth is that so? It's because in my quest to minimise or mitigate client despondency, it's vital that I ensure they understand that, purely statistically, they are not going to secure a job. If anyone applies for a job and is one of 25 or 50 or 500 people, statistically, that person will not get the job. There are also numerous variables that come into play: recruiters' preconceptions, candidates' qualifications, context, job type, level of expectations, etc. Should the work a CV writer does for you improve your chances? Emphatically, yes, otherwise why use them? But, please go into the process understanding that the support is simply that and is never any kind of guarantee. You must take into account all of the variables and I would far rather you assume you will never get a job, and then be happy that you do, than assume the tools will secure you the interview. Am I doing myself out of business? I sincerely hope not, because honesty is always best. And for that reason, when any CV writing or coaching company gives you a guarantee of results, run a mile and don't use them..

It's Job offer season again. The time of year when organizations have set plans for the new financial year and want high-caliber professionals to fill important roles. I find it nice to be recognized as a person who is definitely wanted and so should you. However, you seriously need to consider a few things. Evaluate the new opportunity's alignment with your career goals, including the potential for growth and advancement. Assess the company's culture, values, and stability to ensure it matches your personal and professional needs. Compare the benefits, compensation, and work-life balance offered by both positions. Reflect on your current job satisfaction. A good way to make a decision is to ask your current employer for a performance review. Use your performance appraisal as a guide to see if your employer appreciates all you do and work out if you have a future. Money is good, but it should never be your single consideration. Good luck and whatever you decide, know the reason you are approached is because your are pretty special.

Celebrating another win💃💃 (But hey, that's not what you think) I declined the offer, The job description conflicts with my ethical standards. Even though we all need money to pay our bills. But what do you do when a job offer doesn't align with your values? Do you accept it for the paycheck, or reject it for your principles? This offer came in sometime ago and during the interview, the client explained the job responsibilities, which didn't match my morals. Here's my feedback👇 Although I didn't take the job It's a win for me because I didn't compromise. I always prioritize my beliefs over money. Lessons: ✅ Prioritize your morals and beliefs in every action. ✅ Choose faith over money 💰 ✅ All that glitters is not gold 🥇 PS: Have you experienced this before? PSS: How did you handle it? #moralvalues #morality
