I'm over the moon to see Benjamin Reeves finally join our Austin, Harper Harrison Built Environment brand. Not just because he's a high performer, not just because he's a cultural architect and not just because it was a visa process... But because this is a huge next chapter in Ben's personal & professional life.
This journey started, having spoken to a mutual connection whilst I was still in LA, almost 12 months ago. Keeping this confidential, we stayed in touch & then Natalie McLeish reached out on a recommendation... Unfortunately, we couldn't find a mutual fit, but made some introductions, to which she secured a role.

And the new adventure begins!
Today marks day 1 of the next step in my recruitment journey. Over the years I've been fortunate to add value to a number of industries. Tech, Finance, Marketing to name a few. Today however, and under the guidance of a frankly blistering Harper Harrison team lead by Del Connolly and Jack Eldridge, I turn my hand towards the world of Mission Critical Infrastructure.
To say the growth trajectory of this market is exciting would be a stark understatement. The U.S stands as one of the most robust Data Center construction markets globally, with Texas sitting as a leading state chosen by builders. Job flow is high, labor is short and hyper competitive markets is where we do our best work!

A phrase I learnt to appreciate and now romanticize from my time in NYC is "New York or Nowhere"...
For some, it's too busy. For others, it's got everything you want... whenever you want it.
Sure, you can work the US remote from the UK for the fees... but where is the fun in long hours.
Whilst it's become more common for UK recruiters to relocate to the US, NYC seems to be over shadowed by smaller, cheaper, and slower paces of life... I can see the logic BUT you have you're whole life to live that life.

Monday Mindset... "Opportunity is at the end of your comfort zone".
🙇♂️ As I reflect on 6 years here at LHi Group, hands down, the most important decision I made telling my comfort zone to F*** Off & moving to New York.
🗣 Sure as a Recruiter of Recruiters, I'm going promote considering change BUT it's much more than that.
😊 I was performing well. I had just brought my first home. I'd just settled in a new city. My partner & I were considering starting a family. We had a dog.
🤔 The hardest thing, is letting go of the life you are familiar with & almost living in future...
"How cool would it be, to offer our children the gift of a US passport".
"Wouldn't it be great to invite family & friends to our life in Brooklyn".
"Think of trips to the Hamptons, Bermuda, Upstate & outer state experiences".
"The exposure this will give me, will only benefit my future career".
💡 That unknown becomes your new reality. We're only 5 hours from the UK. We're surrounded other expats. What's the worst that can happen, we don't like it and move home?
😎 Yes, the fee's are bigger. Yes, there is more opportunity. But, it's also a lifestyle choice... when I go back to New York now, I can say I lived here, my daughter was born here & act we like locals... that's pretty damn cool.

Somehow, we've found ourselves labelling 'greatness' is for the elite few... the top percental of talent.
In recruitment I guess that's the top biller, rookie of the year, most clients signed, candidates placed, highest KPI's, record months, and growth quarters blah blah blah...
As Hannah eloquently states, this industry is all about people. Therefore, we have to understand Greatness is for everyone, not lowering the bar, but raising it for all & appreciate it's not just one destination, it's for wherever anyone is trying to find.

Connecting Safety Leaders with the Most Innovative Life Sciences Companies | Safety Recruitment Senior Manager
H1 of this year LHi Group & Kevin Cooley had us focusing on the Nike principles, with a "Find your Greatness" challenge for the top consultants to win a pair of Nike Dunks.
If you're not familiar with the 10 Nike principles, my favorite one is #3 "Perfect results count, not perfect processes. Break the rules: fight the law." It really was the one I shouted throughout the half. Reason being, recruitment is not black and white when we deal with something so personal as ones career and livelihood.
After the year of recruitment that 2023 was😬, every positive moment in H1 I was grateful. And maybe sometimes shocked that it was my reality. But I went into every day with intention to be a good person, treat people well, and have fun while doing it.
And I must say, the best part of winning these shoes, was that SciPro NYC had two other women winning them along side me, Sofia Lopresti pictured below, and Annie Sullivan-Crowley (who's are still being custom made).
Cannot wait to see what H2 brings us! Thanks for the kicks, Kev!
