A new analysis showed that people with type 2 diabetes who achieved remission through intensive lifestyle intervention had lower rates of kidney disease and heart disease, compared to those who did not reach remission. Diabetes remission was defined as having an A1C less than 6.5% and taking NO diabetes medications at a single moment in time. About 13% of participants met the definition for remission. These participants had a 33% lower rate of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and a 40% lower rate of heart disease. Although the analysis highlights the difficulty of maintaining remission over time, it also points to encouraging outcomes for macrovascular and microvascular complications for those who can reach remission. Diabetes remission may not be the right goal for everyone, but it’s worth talking to your healthcare provider about the different ways to attain it and the benefits to your long-term health. 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗲𝘁𝗲𝘀 - 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝟭𝗖 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁? Do you know your A1C value? If you have diabetes, you may have heard of the A1C test. It is a simple blood test that measures your estimated average blood glucose or blood sugar level over the past 2-3 months. The A1C test can be used to diagnose diabetes or to monitor how well you’re managing blood sugar levels. High blood sugar levels over time increase the risk for complications of diabetes including heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, blindness and nerve problems. Talk to your health care provider to find out your personalized A1C goal and most recent A1C result. Your A1C goal varies depending on age, other health conditions and cognitive function among other factors. With regular physical activity, a healthful eating plan and medication adherence, you are more likely to hit your A1C goal and prevent complications. Check out the image below for a brief overview of the A1C test. Source: https://lnkd.in/g2DBTVVS

GP with specialist interest in Health Screening and Older People| Senior Clinical Research Fellow, Ageing Epidemiology Research Unit Imperial College London | Clinical Lead for Measure Health
Not everything is about treatment. Over my last 15 years as a doctor and a GP one of my greatest lessons is we underestimate the impact of lifestyle on health and diseases. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide and when we think of the factors that increase risk of these... high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, smoking...these are all lifestyle related. Being an NHS GP is something I am passionate about, but the reality of an average of 10min consultations is that we often don’t have the luxury of time to go in-depth into a patients lifestyle. I hope that in the future, the time I can spend with patients in the NHS is the same as I can with Measure Health, the private screening service I set up. When you understand patients more deeply and get ahead of their problems you can help them reduce risks of bad outcomes far before there is a problem. This is not only better for patients, but better for the overall health service. #proactivehealth #healthscreening #northlonhealthscreening #measurehealth

Why Addressing Insulin Resistance Early is Critical Insulin resistance is at the core of major health concerns, including type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and more. In the UK, insulin is provided for free to manage type 2 diabetes, but relying on insulin only worsens the root issue. Over time, this leads to serious complications like kidney failure, liver failure, or heart disease. The bigger concern? The same system providing insulin today may not be able to offer you the life-saving treatments needed later. As healthcare resources become more limited, decisions are increasingly made based on cost-effectiveness. That could mean facing serious health challenges without the care you need. Start investing in your health now to avoid the consequences later. #InsulinResistance #Healthcare #Type2Diabetes #HealthStrategy #PreventativeCare #KidneyHealth #LiverHealth
