An important aspect of training not only Service Dogs, but pet dogs as well is commands from distance. We need them to be able to follow commands if they are not in direct physical contact with us. Tasks Servce Dogs perform are often without that direct physical contact. They can also be without a verbal command which is why we also train them to pick up on subtle cues.
