At #COP28 this week, Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) Head of ESG Lucy Chadwick shared her views on several topics related to the energy transition and how we at GIP seek to serve growing market needs for cleaner forms of energy, energy security and energy affordability. It has also been a wonderful occasion to spend time with many of our partners as the world focuses on a path toward a more sustainable future.

🌍 As #COP28 concludes, we're reminded of our collective role in shaping a sustainable future. At Bishop Fleming, we're committed to driving positive change and reducing our environmental impact. 🌿 We've recently completed our second carbon footprint assessment. This milestone has been independently verified by Net Zero Now, reaffirming our focus on transparency and accountability. 🔍 In our journey towards sustainability, we've taken a significant step by transitioning to a renewable electricity provider. Today, six of our eight offices are powered by renewable energy, aligning with our commitment to a greener future. 🌟 Our focus now shifts to engaging our incredible team. Together, we aim to make an impact by addressing Scope 3 emissions – prioritising travel, waste, and procurement. 📊 For a deeper dive into our environmental initiatives, check out our 2022 - 2023 Impact Report. 👇 https://bit.ly/48FJCfB #WhatSetsUsApart #Sustainability #ClimateAction #OurImpact 🌎💚 Ewan McClymont Fleur Lewis Pam Tuckett

Fast-tracking a just and orderly energy transition was a key priority on the COP28 Presidential Action Agenda. Bratin Roy, Sr. Vice President, Industry Service and Sustainability states: "We must urgently transform the way we produce, distribute and consume energy by decarbonizing our current systems and building the infrastructure for the energy systems of the future." #COP28explained #COP28UAE #ClimateAction #Decarbonization #EnergyTransition #tuvsud

Improved financing terms could save USD $50 trillion as the world #decarbonise to 2050. Our global "Financing the Green Energy Transition" report makes it clear that we must narrow and eliminate the "premium" being charged on critical #transition #sustainable #infrastructure projects. It is clear from my discussions at #cop28 to date, that addressing this situation can also help accelerate balancing the scales and ultimately improve our decarbonisation track through the twin impacts of more appropriately supporting the transition infrastructure and cutting back on the availability of funds for non-green projects. The need is particularly acute for developing nations, where the spread in risk premiums is most pronounced. In 2015, the UN's adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement marked a historic commitment to a sustainable world. However, geopolitical, energy, and economic tensions hinder ecological transition efforts. As we reach the halfway point, governments must drive a new momentum. To achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, countries must intensify efforts and drastically cut CO2 emissions 🏭 Here are some key actions for governments: 👉 Accelerate the adoption of renewable energies. 👉 Promote energy efficiency and responsible consumption. 👉 Develop a circular economy supporting local jobs and short supply chains. Cristina Gamboa is speaking at the #WorldClimateSummit this morning on "Accelerating the Energy Efficient Future - Pathways to Innovating the #BuiltEnvironment" panel. On the panel with Cristina is: 🟢 Paula Glover | Alliance to Save Energy 🟢 Philip Hoare | AtkinsRéalis 🟢 Mauricio Zuazua | Kearny 🟢 Alex Doorey | OVO ENERGY LTD Many of our buildings are currently wasting energy. We need a balance between the basic energy efficiency measures that are available now and innovative technology to #decarbonise our buildings and enhance energy performance. We need international collaboration to ensure that we move together. The developing world still needs to urbanise so balance is essential for a #justtransition. Our global network of 75+ Green Building Councils are already working with businesses, organisations and governments to drive the change we need to see. https://lnkd.in/eAQ4UYv2 This was a very thought provoking article authored by Robert Spencer, Global Lead ESG Advisory at AECOM. It summarises the key takeaways from #cop28 on the implications of the built environment. What was interesting in this article were the references to how AECOM can help businesses shape plans to align with #cop28. Robert's article summarised that the link between climate change and nature is clear and there has been a significant increase in funding for nature programs. Among those that were announced at the conference was US$100 million from the Bezos Earth Fund for the new ocean reserve in the South Pacific. For me, it is an important but complex topic that affects us all and Robert Spencer at AECOM provides a summary of some of the key points in a very accessible format. For something as important at the planet for future generations, information such as this can often leave the reader to think its too big, what can I do, which often leaves many to summise inaction. This article should go some way to leave people with a view to action. #climatechange #climateaction #sustainability #workforcetransformation

In our #PostCOP28ReflectionsSeries, our Climate Change and Sustainability Advisor Poonam Nagarkoti highlights that COP28 played a catalytic role in accelerating decarbonization and energy transition by launching the Oil and Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC) bringing national and international oil and gas companies to agree on decarbonization targets. Highlights of Commitments under OGDC: 1. #NetZero (Scope 1 and 2) operation by or before 2050. 2. Zero Routine Flaring by 2030 at all operations. 3. Near-zero upstream methane emissions. Progress made by OGDC: ✔️ 50+ Signatories are committed towards this unique collaboration to accelerate the decarbonization of the global oil and gas sector. ✔️ Signatories represents 30+ countries worldwide ✔️ Commitments by signatories represents 40% of global oil production. These aspirations aim to reduce GHG emissions between 54 - 58 GtCO2 equivalent per year. OGDC is not only an action towards the decarbonization and Net zero but has multi-faceted co-benefits such as reduced air pollution, improved public health, employment opportunities, cost savings through energy efficient measures, advancement in technology and alignment with national and international commitments. At Sustainable Square, we develop #sustainability strategies and roadmaps for our clients from Oil and Gas Industries in line with national and international frameworks. We prepare Sustainability reports aligned with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Oil and Gas Sector Standards and our capacity building sessions help OGCs to build knowledge base within Sustainability domain.
