Last week, Mallory Cannon, UN Global Compact Network USA's Climate and Environment Program Coordinator, spoke with Hajar Yagkoubi in a live studio talk show session during World Water Week in Stockholm, Sweden. This session focused on how the American #privatesector can engage in collective action to safeguard our water supply. Our recently published #whitepaper on corporate water stewardship was highlighted as a resource for companies. Mallory discussed how businesses can enhance their water stewardship strategies in the U.S. through collective action by drawing on six case studies: Microsoft, Cargill, PepsiCo, Gotham Greens, S&P Global, and Xylem. The scale and stakes of the water crisis demand that every organization, large or small, has a role in amplifying the impact and expediting progress toward achieving SDG 6. Read the full whitepaper by visiting https://lnkd.in/gp4DqwpZ. To learn more about how your company can get involved with corporate sustainability initiatives with the United Nations Global Compact, Network USA will be holding an event during NYC Climate Week on Thursday, September 26th. Product, Solutions & Innovation Management | Industry 4.0, IoT, Edge Computing, Cable & Connectivity | Technology & Strategy
Earlier this week, we recognized World Environment Day. For 51 years, June 5 has been the day that the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) encourages worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment. World Environment Day 2024 focused on land restoration, halting desertification and building drought resilience. Interestingly, the Belden strategy for Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) has a similar focus: we are committed to limiting our environmental footprint as part of our vision for a more sustainable future. For example, Belden is committed to the responsible management of water and promoting access to this limited resource for all. Our current conservation efforts focus on recycling, efficiency, and reuse. Since 2022, we have reduced our water consumption by 3%. We are also committed to reducing our waste. At the end of 2023, Belden’s amount of total waste was 31,200,886 lbs. 85.5% of this waste was diverted from landfills, a 3% improvement from last year. We are making steady progress towards our 2025 goal. Belden’s 2023 ESG Report is now available, and I invite you to see more of the progress we’re making with our critical ESG goals—and to learn more about our strategy. https://bit.ly/49MSQGc #WorldEnvironmentDay #ESGReport #BelongBelieveBeYou #LetsBuildTheFuture

As we observe World Environment Day, it's a moment to celebrate our planet and reaffirm our commitment to environmental stewardship. As a leader in our industry, Toll has an opportunity to materially change the volume of carbon that is emitted into our environment through the decisions we make in our business. We’re aiming to reduce our impact on the environment by focusing on the key areas of fleet, facilities, and ways of working. Our journey towards sustainability is a collective effort, and so we have integrated eco-friendly practices into our operations, and we're constantly exploring new ways to reduce our environmental footprint. These include replacing conventional lights with LEDs, installing multiple recycling stations on site, returning packaging to suppliers, harvesting rainwater, removing single use coffee capsules and eliminating single use plastics. We know there is more work to be done and we’re committed to continually exploring how we can do better. We’re always keen to learn so we invite you to share your thoughts and actions on sustainability with us. How can the private sector help improve water resilience in the midst of a changing climate? Water is essential for life, but it is also under threat from the climate crisis. The UN warns that water scarcity will worsen as the planet continues to warm. This is why our water strategy – Towards Healthy Watersheds – looks beyond traditional water usage to prioritise the health of local watersheds, especially in water-stressed areas. We have implemented watershed protection programs and worked with local stakeholders to develop systemic solutions that benefit people and the planet. As Sonia Thimmiah, our Senior Director Global Sustainability, said: "There is an acknowledgment that multi-stakeholder efforts yield the most impactful results: an opportunity to scale impact, utilize resources efficiently and learn from collective experiences." World Environment Day isn’t just about one day of the year to show support and help raise awareness. Since 1973, World Environment Day has raised awareness to highlight critical environmental issues, from climate change to the depletion of the ozone layer in a bid to encourage governments, businesses, civil society groups and individuals to take action. In the procurement industry, like many other sectors, factoring in the environmental impact and planning for long-term sustainability should be embedded at every stage in order to take responsible action to reduce our global carbon footprint. Did you know? 🌎 Only 0.5 per cent of water on Earth is useable and available freshwater. Climate change is dangerously affecting that supply. 🌎 The world will need to raise its food production by 60–70 per cent to feed a projected human population of 9 billion by 2050 even as the current agricultural expansion continues to threaten forests and biodiversity. 🌎 Cities account for 75 per cent of global resource and energy use and produce more than half of global waste and at least 60 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions. At Bramwith Consulting we take our responsibilities to make our workplace more environmentally sustainable, we are also proud supporters of The Ocean Cleanup Project and Heart of the City Climate initiative. In our latest blog, MD Saffa Ayub, explores the importance of 'Striking a Balance and Why Procurement Should Prioritise Supplier Relationships and Sustainability.' You can access the full blog by clicking on the link below. 👇 Is this something that you feel your organisation is giving enough focus to or is it something that needs more attention and a more balanced approach? https://lnkd.in/eaYjPsym #GenerationRestoration #ESG #SustainabilityMatters #Procurement

The city of Aspen has joined an elite group of 119 cities worldwide achieving a top score on climate action by the environmental impact nonprofit, CDP. Aspen's commitment to environmental leadership and transparency has earned it a spot on CDP's "A List." As an "A List" city, Aspen is leading the charge with four times as many climate mitigation and adaptation measures compared to non-A listers. This recognition reflects the city's dedication to building climate momentum and taking bold steps towards a sustainable future. Only 13% of cities scored in 2023 received an A score, showcasing Aspen's exceptional efforts. To make the A List, a city must publicly disclose environmental data through CDP-ICLEI Track, maintain a city-wide emissions inventory, and publish a climate action plan – known in Aspen as the Aspen Sustainability Action Plan. Aspen's Mayor Torre emphasizes the city's proactive engagement in environmental stewardship, setting ambitious goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 63.4% by 2030 and 100% by 2050. The city council's commitment since the mid-2000s has led to impactful actions, including banning single-use grocery bags, transitioning to 100% renewable energy, and passing ordinances to reduce energy use and organics waste in 2022 and 2023, respectively. To learn more about Aspen's sustainability programs, visit Aspen Environmental Health & Sustainability. Let's celebrate Aspen's achievement and continue leading the way towards a greener, more sustainable future! #AspenSustainability #ClimateAction #EnvironmentalLeadership

Join Dr Nick Hepworth, Director of Water Witness International, to find out why half the UK's global water footprint is unsustainable, how our water use pushes the Global South into climate vulnerability, and how we can create a fairer water future for all. The event is organised within Fair Water exhibition taking place until 1 September 2024 in the Museum of Natural History. ⌚ When: 26 February, 5.30-6.30 GMT (doors will open at 5pm) 🔍 Where: Oxford University Museum of Natural History | Westwood Room ✅ Secure your FREE tickets here: https://lnkd.in/eQfha62s Did you know that seventy percent of the UK’s water needs are met overseas via the water used to produce the food, clothing, and goods we consume each day. New research by Water Witness International suggests that half of this global water footprint is unsustainable – polluting rivers and draining aquifers, and pushing people, ecosystem and economies into extreme vulnerability. Dr Hepworth will share insights from investigations into the UK’s profound dependency on irresponsible water use across the Global South, and set out the steps that government, corporations and individuals must take to ensure a fair water footprint, and a more just global future of shared water security. Dr Nick Hepworth is an ‘activist hydrologist’ and influential leader in the struggle for global water and climate justice. His 30 years of experience at the cutting edge of water management spans research, regulation, policy, and provision of advice to communities, governments, and business. In 2009 he founded the NGO Water Witness International to lead action, research, and advocacy for a fairer water future – working with communities across the world to demand accountability and protection against flooding, drought, pollution, water grabs and water conflict. He initiated the Alliance for Water Stewardship, whose standard is now used by companies including Apple, Unilever, Nestle, Coke and Diageo to guide good practice on water. In 2021 he co-authored the COP26 Declaration for Fair Water Footprints whose 30 Signatories are working to end the abuse of water in the global economy. He regularly provides evidence to Parliamentary Committees, is an advisor to the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office, and recently designed the UK government’s £40M ‘Just Water Security Transition’ programme launched at COP28. #waterfootprint #waterjustice #climatejustice #fairwater School of Geography and the Environment, University of Oxford Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment - University of Oxford Oxford University Museum Of Natural History REACH | Water Security
