As the demand for quality #LGBTQ #representation grows, so too does the responsibility of video game creators to meet those expectations. Video game remakes have an opportunity to be better than the originals and, more importantly, set a higher standard for the types of stories, characters, and players that they want to better represent. https://lnkd.in/e7YKpbRw

🌈 Pride Month Spotlight: The Importance of LGBTQ Representation in Video Games 🎮 As we celebrate Pride Month, it's crucial to reflect on the significance of LGBTQ representation in video games. According to the GLAAD Gaming Report, nearly 1 in 5 active gamers identify as LGBTQ, yet games with LGBTQ characters or storylines account for less than 2% of all games available. The lack of games also makes it extremely hard for LGBTQ to find games where they feel represented. Our mission at Gameopedia is to harness the power of data to unlock new gaming experiences through human-centric products that level up people’s life for the global gaming community. This is why we are extremely focused on curating Diversity & Representation metadata in video games, to help gaming platforms surface these games to everyone so that you can find the next amazing gaming experience where you feel represented! Together, we can push for greater diversity and representation in the gaming industry, making it a space where everyone feels welcome and valued. 🌟 #PrideMonth #LGBTQRepresentation #GamingCommunity #InclusionMatters #GameMetadata

Educating and Helping People to Better Understand Biases, Their Impact, and How to Try and Keep Them in Check
"The study found that LGBTQ+ gamers are 11% more likely than non-queer gamers to use gaming to escape from difficult real-world situations and are 24% more likely to depend on gaming to get them through tough times. These percentages increased for queer people living in states that have recently passed or proposed anti-LGBTQ+ legislation. In fact, half of all LGBTQ+ gamers said they felt more accepted by the gaming community than they do where they live. Approximately 66% of LGBTQ+ gamers said that gaming allows them to express themselves in a way they don’t feel comfortable doing in the real world, and 35% of LGBTQ+ gamers said they felt like gaming was their only outlet for socializing with other people. Despite this, 52% of LGBTQ+ gamers reported experiencing harassment while playing online, compared to 38% of non-queer gamers." https://lnkd.in/g2hRPAbZ
