World Children’s Day is #UNICEF's annual day of action for children, by children, marking the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Children’s rights are human rights. But in too many places today, children’s rights are under attack. 🕊 For every child, peace: Every child, everywhere, has a right to live in a peaceful world. 🌍 For every child, a livable planet: Children have a right to a safe and livable planet. 📢 For every child, a voice: Children must be listened to and included in all decisions that affect them. 

Today marks the day in 1989 when world leaders committed to an international agreement on the rights of childhood, adopted as the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. Learn more about the rights they agreed all children are entitled to enjoy in this child-friendly explanation:

UNESCO-APCEIU invites educators, youth leaders, and global citizens to its film screening event spotlighting World Children’s Day On November 20 every year, we celebrate World Children’s Day worldwide. Teachers, parents, youth, and all members of society are all responsible for protecting children’s rights. Children are in nature dependent as their basic needs should be met by their families or caregivers; however, some are in a vulnerable situation where their safety and well-being are threatened due to poverty, conflicts, and inadequate environment. What can and should communities do to protect abandoned and neglected children so that they can grow up developing dreams about a bright future? The inspiring SIMA films on children’s rights, Tashi and the Monk and Their Day in Court invite us to reflect on our roles and responsibilities to vulnerable children. Today, Nov. 20, is #WorldChildrensDay, UNICEF's annual day of action for children’s rights. This day marks the adoption of the U.N.’s Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989. It’s the most ratified human rights treaty in world history. The U.S. is the only country that hasn’t ratified it, thanks in part to the homeschooling lobby. But here at CRHE, we believe that children have rights, particularly in the homeschooling community. That’s why we created the Bill of Rights for Homeschooled Children, an aspirational vision for homeschooling that centers children’s rights and needs. We modeled it after the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and every single right described in it is based on documented cases of human rights abuses towards homeschooled children. The right to think for themselves. The right to make their own age-appropriate choices. The right to be who they want to be. Those are the rights we center in the Bill of Rights for Homeschooled Children. In the vast playground of life, where every adventure begins, lies a world of endless possibilities for the little dreamers. You’ve heard so many people say it: children are the future. And whether you yourself have children or not, that still rings true. Today’s children are tomorrow’s scientists, politicians, doctors and teachers. Today’s children will inherit all of what humanity has managed to accomplish since the beginning of its existence, both the good and honorable deeds and the cruel wars and terrible failures. It is the children of today that will be charged with protecting the weak and vulnerable of this world, and making even the hardest of decisions in order to do so. Who then, if not our children, deserves a holiday? This special day is dedicated to all of the children, so that they may enjoy these carefree years while they last and be ready for the responsibilities that await them. So let’s live it up, kids! Universal Children’s Day was first announced by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 1954. Originally, there were 2 goals this day was to help achieve: to encourage children of all races, creeds and religions to spend time together, getting to know each other and appreciating each other’s differences, and to prompt governments worldwide to pay more attention to the welfare of their youngest citizens. Although Universal Children’s Day takes place on November 20th, each country that participates in the festivities has its own date set aside for this purpose. #WorldChildrensDay2023 #WorldChildrensDay #CelebrateChildren
