Pediatric healthcare touches everything from immunizations (over 20 recommended before adulthood!) to developmental health, from sick care to rare disease. Yet, because children represent approximately 23% of the national population but less than 10% of national healthcare expenditures, and because they’re not direct customers of most healthcare products and services, they have been historically underrepresented in care delivery and payment model innovation. However, momentum is swinging in an upward direction. Regardless of age, we all deserve comprehensive preventative care. However, in America’s current healthcare system, the preventative care approach is not offered to many. This article is one example of how effective preventative care measures are an important aspect of value-based healthcare for younger patients. This applies to older patients as well. Preventative care enables better short and long-term health outcomes while lowering healthcare costs. However, in our current healthcare system “sick care” is prioritized and patients are left with little to no guidance on how to maintain their health and wellbeing. In turn, more of patients are prone to needing “sick care.” In order to stop this cycle, it is essential to promote accessibility to comprehensive and affordable preventative care measures. #ValueBasedCare #healthcare #PreventativeCare
