29th March 2014. That’s when the first same-sex marriage occurred in England and Wales. When it comes to landmark pieces of legislation, the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act 2013 is up there, cementing the tireless efforts of those campaigning for the rights of LGBTQ+ couples to be afforded the right to marry. Since then, attitudes in society have changed dramatically, and there’s no doubt that positive progress has been made. As we celebrate Pride Month, it’s a good time to reflect on how far we’ve come and the progress the world still needs to make regarding same-sex marriage. Take a look at our latest blog to learn more. #Blog #Pride2024 #PrideMonth

New RAND report: The evidence review revealed that for LGBT individuals and same-sex couples, their children, and the general U.S. population, the benefits of access to legal marriage for same-sex couples are unambiguously positive. The new analyses found no evidence for a retreat from marriage; in fact, there was evidence for a possible "increase" in marriage resulting from legalization of marriage between same-sex partners. https://lnkd.in/eU8jVZ3k

Marriage Equality: A Personal Reflection Marriage equality is a crucial human right that we must safeguard and fight for. It is vital that everyone works together to create a world where every individual is valued and respected, irrespective of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Although marriage equality is a critical aspect of LGBTQ+ rights, it encompasses much more than just the right to marry. It includes equal rights and protections in areas such as housing, employment, and healthcare. While I am fortunate to live in a country that acknowledges marriage equality, there is still much work to be done. It is our collective responsibility to advocate for equality, fight against hate and discrimination, and stand up for the rights of all individuals. Here are some key points to consider when advocating for marriage equality: - Legalizing same-sex marriage is not simply about granting legal status to couples in love. It's about acknowledging the inherent worth and dignity of every person, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. - Refusing same-sex couples the right to marry is a form of discrimination that sends a message that their love is not valued or respected. This can have severe emotional and psychological consequences for LGBTQ+ individuals and their families. - Marriage equality is not just a political issue, but it is also a human rights issue. Every individual has the right to love who they want and marry who they choose. - Although progress has been made in many areas, there are still countries where LGBTQ+ individuals are persecuted and killed for simply being themselves. We must continue to advocate for their rights and strive to create a more inclusive and accepting world. The fight for marriage equality is essential, and we must continue to work together to advocate for the rights of every individual. Everyone deserves the right to love and marry whomever they choose, and we must create a more accepting and inclusive world. Personal Note: I am delighted to share with my LinkedIn community that I recently married the love of my life this past week. I hope that my story can serve as a reminder that love is love, and that everyone deserves the right to marry the person they love. Let's continue to work together to create a world where everyone is free to love and be loved, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Theaston White - Hernandez

2moThanks for highlighting this research and the anniversary date of such an important milestone. Jim Obergefell recently spoke at my daughter's college graduation at Pitzer. He had such a compelling personal story and was such a wise and unifying activist, esp given so much unrest on the college campus.
