When those who justify the curious so called "self defense legitimacy" of the Israeli occupation, tell you "Gaza was not occupied"... What is the difference in degree of human rights violation between a 17 years period of total blockade, monitoring and controlling every bit IN or OUT of a besieged enclave where people are not even allowed to fish in their own seas, and occupation ? First, if the Gaza strip was "plainly" not occupied till now, it wasn't for lack of trying. The Israeli occupation has tried before, but due to the growing Palestinian Hamas resistance and fight for freedom, the occupation was enable to keep its settlements which in 2005 were dismantled and the Israeli settlers and army evacuated from inside the Gaza Strip. Second, what is left in addition to Gaza of historic Palestine still under Palestinian authority is the West Bank. And the West Bank is more and more military controlled by the Israeli occupation with increasing settlements and land seizure every year. Which leaves Gaza Strip, currently undergoing genocide, the only parcel of land still not "literally" under occupation.

Israel has also imposed a brutal 57 year occupation/apartheid on Palestinians, as well as a brutal blockade of Gaza since 2005. Both are illegal under international law, immoral, & ongoing acts of war. What would you do if someone stole your house & livelihood, killed some of your family, & left the rest of you with nothing, to live in the squalor of a refugee camp? That is what Israel did to over 750,000 Palestinians in 1948, over 300,000 in 1967, over 250,000 since 1967, & MORE EVERY YEAR – simply because they are not Jewish. Most of the families in Gaza owned homes & farms where Israeli cities & towns now stand. Properties that had often been in their families for generations, which Israel literally stole from them.
