Here are some ways Rhonda Crittle, our Director of Revenue Management recommends others can get involved/participate in uplifting the Black community. 💫I recommend people get involved and participate in uplifting the Black community by shopping black-owned small businesses. From visiting local stores, pop-up events and restaurants to searching for “black owned” on Amazon, there are many ways to buy black-owned and support small businesses in the community.

Sheena Butler-Young 3-part series for BoF was extremely insightful for Black owned brands. A few things that stood out to me. 1. Success is not overnight. Some of the brands highlighted either started + 5-10 years ago and/or rebranded / raised their price point before finding success. 2. 96% of Black owned business are sole proprietor. Beyond capital there's a clear need for investors to be able to provide people support / employee recommendations. 3. Proof is in the pudding. You can center Black consumers while still including everyone. Brown Girl Jane reported over half of their customers are non people of color. 4. The importance of streamlining. I learned Danessa Myricks went from 400+ SKU's to 83. 5. Embracing mistakes. Many of the Black owned brands featured started in different retailers, have changed their packaging, or have rebranded in other ways. Being able to pivot is key. Most importantly, investors must begin to see the value proposition of Black owned beauty. The #'s are there. The Black spending power is there. Many black owned brands fare the brunt of educating investors on the value prop. Black businesses deserve funding!

Being irresistible is the new black! ♠️ My super complex, 2-step master plan Delivering a great product/service sure is nice.  But it doesn't guarantee success. Because if it ain't: - unique enough - different enough - memorable enough - standing out enough It'll get lost in the noise. Go for irresistible rather than perfect. -------------------------- How I do it - my super complex, 2-step master plan: 1. I Go BIGGGG! I make the brand bold, make it visible, make it "shout", make it skip steps, make it go for the throat, make it stubborn 2. I'm hyper-focused on my audience I obsessively ask myself, "Why would they care about my brand? How can I get them to go "Aah!"?" That led me to create a space, the BLK + GRN platform, where we could showcase our talents, make toxin-free products accessible, and uplift Black creators. However, as time went on, I noticed that many incredible creators lacked access to the tools, resources, and support needed to take their businesses to the next level. So, this week, I'm doing something special—I'm sharing a wealth of knowledge across all my platforms on how natural product creators can take their products to the big leagues. Get ready to be inspired and informed. It's time to take that next step in your journey!

This year is about unity. This year is about building. We have talked the talk for years but this year we will walk the walk. We will ensure black vendors have more opportunities. We will showcase more black talent globally. We will see deals are made and businesses grow. This year is about building and growing. We will be rooting for ALL black entrepreneurs, CEOs, CMOs, Agencies to ensure you take your place in the creative space and not just make your mark but make your dollars. Our milestones are as follows: Jan 15th 2024 beta version launch. ( you will have the ability to create a vendor account, an executive account, and a general purpose account on our platform. March 29th you will be able to start interacting with other people on the platform. June 19th you will have access of monetizing the platform and full access. This year is about creating opportunities, wealth and progression of the black creative community. Together we go further…… Let’s be creative everywhere!

Supporting Black owned businesses goes beyond e-commerce. Choosing businesses in your local community can benefit you as one who lives in the area while growing Black businesses. Here are 3 ways to support Black businesses locally. 1. Food - Restaurants are the obvious choice here. They could also include food trucks. - Look for specialty food items in local stores. 2. Service providers - Find a business service provider for websites, VA, or branding - Treat yourself to the spa or beauty maintenance services 3. Products in major retailers - Target and Walmart keep products at certain location by sales - Keep those products in your local area by continuing to support What are some other ways to support your local community while supporting Black businesses? I can’t believe it’s Launch Day, such a special moment. So many new users started using, then day two came… Flatlined. Like a dead battery trying to be revived, at most you get small sparks here and there. I’ve been there and done that. Put my head done, built, and finally looked up when it was time to launch. You hear it all the time: fail fast, fail often. And I took it literally. The issue with this is we’re failing at too big a scale at too slow an interval. When I was in banking you had mid-year and end-of-year feedback. So twice a year you knew if you were failing or not. My first startup I increased the interval to once a quarter. Now I’ve shortened the feedback loop even more, I can sometimes fail 2-3 times in one day. Half of the feedback loop is speaking with clients and potential clients. The other half are other entrepreneurs who I can bounce ideas off, experiment with, and learn from their experiments. Because of that, I can be on the right path more often and not go too far in the wrong direction and have to do a ton of work to correct. This is why I’m building this new community for up and coming black entrepreneurs. To have an unfair advantage. In the next month, I will be running a shared focus sprint. Think of it like a course and lab. Learning new ways to grow paid users and experimenting. The goal after 3 weeks is to increase paid users. My goal is to grow this community during this focus sprint. Membership will be priced at $799/year. This includes grocery stores, restaurants, clothing boutiques, salons, and more. 🖤 Spread the Word: Share information about Black-owned businesses with your friends, family, and social media followers. Word-of-mouth recommendations can be very powerful. 🖤 Attend Events: Participate in local events, fairs, or markets that feature Black-owned businesses. These events often showcase a wide range of products and services. 🖤 Online Shopping: Many Black-owned businesses have an online presence. Explore their websites and make online purchases to support them even if you can't visit their physical location. 🖤 Collaborate: If you own a business or work for a company, consider collaborating with Black-owned businesses for partnerships, promotions, or sourcing products. 🖤 Write Reviews: Leave positive reviews on platforms like Google, Yelp, or social media to help boost the online visibility and reputation of Black-owned businesses. Don't forget to share posts, photos, and information about the Black-owned businesses you support on your own social media accounts to help spread the word and attract more customers.
