Where have I been this week? Implementing systems with Arctic Sales (in Anchorage) and The Fab Shop (in Seattle). I’ve gotten to witness two amazing teams. Both with individuals who all have growth mindsets. Both implementing systems to reduce waste and increase throughput so that they can serve more customers in less time. Also — I’m just blown away by the leaders on these teams. Their hunger to learn and implement — and the speed at which they move — is inspiring. They don’t know what they don’t know. So they surround themselves with people who can provide them with systems and processes they can learn and implement. This is what my work is all about: Operationalizing businesses into lean machines.

A quick story time to read while you’re sitting on the train, waiting for your next latte or to read to the kids before bed (they’ll certainly be falling asleep!). 📖 Over the weekend I was listening to Frank Stronach speak about his experience in founding the now world-wide company Magna International. There was a key anecdote that stood out that I think anyone in a leadership position could find helpful. 🏭 Back when Stronach had a single factory, his experienced workshop foreman, a key leader in the business, one day did not seem to be his usual cheerful self.  Noticing this and inquiring Stronach found out that his Foreman wanted to follow his own ambitions of opening and running his own factory and thus would have to leave his role with Magna. 🤔 Stronach knew that losing a key leader would be an impediment to his own plans for Magna’s growth and quite a setback. But how could he fulfill the goals of his Foreman? It’s not like he had a spare factory lying around. Or did he? 💡 Stronach decided to open a new Magna factory and placed this Foreman in a role of overseeing the entire enterprise with a profit share agreement as well. 📈 Although at first it seemed like their career goals were mutually exclusive, Stronach manoeuvred himself to a position in which their goals were mutually supportive. Magna was able to expand as a business and for all intents and purposes the Foreman had his own factory to run with a stake in its success. So, I suppose the main questions to take away from his story are: ✔ When was the last time you checked in with the key operators in your business/team? ✔ How often do you try and change your viewpoint to a position where the business goals and their goals are aligned? Sorry there were no dragons in my story! 🦄

Krista’s advice for new associates joining Goodyear? Raise your hand to take on a follow-up task within your team, even if it’s outside your comfort zone. There’s likely a subject matter expert you can partner with to learn along the way. With a Goodyear career spanning supply chain, sales, sales operations, business development and pricing, Krista can offer a well-rounded perspective to newcomers. During my New Hire Orientation at Greif roughly 2.5 years ago, I was first introduced to the Accountability Ladder. I love what it stands for and my TEAM and I often reference it to ensure that we as a Global OPEX TEAM are "staying above the line". At the beginning of this fiscal year, my mentor/coach sent us a note with an actual stop watch. The note stated the following: "Plan in years...Think in months...Work in hours...Act in minutes!" With that said, we are all human and will operate below the line at times. However, the difference between a Champion and a Victim is how quickly you recognize it and what actions you take to quickly get yourself back above the line. I have coached my TEAM to recognize when they are below the line and to hit their virtual stop watch and count in minutes how long it takes them to get back above the line. Think about it. Do you want to be a Champion or a Victim? Do you want to be surrounded by Champions or Victims? Honestly, the choice is ours... Thanks for listening and be SAFE/Healthy!

Cross-Country Collaboration Success Story & Shout-Out 🤩 At A.P. Moller - Maersk collaborating across borders is a norm, showcasing the global reach and teamwork within our organization. However, this 1 project holds a special place in my journey of personal and professional growth.
