SIUE Career Fairs provide an opportunity for students to connect with employers to learn more about their career opportunities. There will be a variety of different employers showcasing their employment opportunities in various employment locations. Please check out the list of attending employers and research the companies before attending the event. We recommend visiting all of the employers' booths to learn more about the different opportunities they may be offering to students. This event will be setup in a table/booth style where students can walk to different employer tables to learn more about their opportunities. Some employers may conduct on-the-spot mini interviews. Students should dress professionally and have multiple copies of their resume available for employers. We recommend researching employers before attending the event. The event will be from 11 am -2 pm. Students will need their Cougar Card (800 ID Card) to check-in at the event.

Executive Assistant || IT & Customer Support Specialist || I enable C-level Executives and Entrepreneurs achieve in 1 WEEK, what they would achieve in 1 MONTH, by providing IMPECCABLE administrative and strategic support
Sometime last month, I came across an upcoming virtual career fair sponsored by alx_africa . I was writing my final exam at the time and I thought "perfect timing to get a job". As part of the event, we had mock interviews, CV review and a Q/A session on Zoom. My mock interview went well, I guess, and I had high hopes that I was gonna be matched with a recruiter right up or something, but to my disappointment, that wasn't the case. During the Q/A session, the speaker mentioned she was hiring for the position of an EA and opened the floor for a few participants to raise a hand and pitch themselves. Hahahahaha! Me? Pitch myself in a meeting with more than 100 participants. I couldn't! The session ended and I made a mental note to send her a message that day. One thing about me, is that when I attend an event and take down the names of certain speakers with the intent to reach out to them, I never do. The motivation just dies the next day and I move on from the event. This time, it was different. So I reached out the next day and asked to "connect". (Picture 2). Let me digress a bit. Few days before, I had come across a post where a certain man complained bitterly of how useless the 'Open to Work' frame was, and was on the verge of taking down mine. Back to my story... I sent my CV, followed up with her but I wasn't hoping on anything. I went on applying to jobs, and even signed up for the Digital witch support community IT training which commenced the same week as my AiCE training on ALX. On Monday evening, I got a message from an HR.(Picture 3) Had the interview with the HR and CEO of the company, on Tuesday morning. Received a mail on Wednesday that I had passed the interview (Picture 4). Submitted my assessment response by 10:00 AM on Friday, and received an offer of employment by 4:32 PM the same day! (Picture 5) I've been over the moon because it's my first 6-figure job and the perfect role I've been seeking for months! It all happened in a space of 5 days, and it's all thanks to alx_africa community, and someone who hasn't met me, doesn't know me, but decided to take a chance on me. Favours like this, I never take for granted and I'll go the extra mile to ensure that she never has to regret her decision. Pardon me for the long gist, but if I don't share my baby steps with you, how would you know when I finally take GIANT steps. In this new week, keep your hope alive, get busy and position yourself properly, something good will come. Take that course, finish that portfolio, and reach out to that recruiter you've been planning to reach out to. Who knows, your next recommendation might come from there. My name is Ojua Daniella. I'm a smart VA and turning your daunting tasks into daily triumphs is what I do best! I'm rooting for you, always. Quick question: Do you also think the 'Open to Work' tag is useless? Or has it worked for you in the past? PS: Couldn't tag for privacy reasons. #Hired #alx #virtualassistant
