I wanted to wish all of my professional peers a happy American Independence Day, and to remind everyone how lucky we are that our forefathers had the insights to lay the groundwork for where we are today. Nothing is perfect, and trials where freedom is, will strengthen. As professionsals, we begin each fiscal year with a new set of goals. Back in 1787, our forefathers did the same, and laid these out in what became the preamble of our Constitution. Essentially, the “objectives” of our governments foundation. “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.". Take it to heart. Take it to work. Take it to sleep. These are critical objectives that we must strive to drive with passion in our work and home lives. Don’t tread on these objectives. Happy Independence Day!

It's a time for solemn reflection, not celebration. --Don't make it about sales or promotions. This day is about honoring the sacrifices of our fallen heroes, not shopping discounts. --Refrain from self-promotion or using the day to boost your own agenda. Keep the focus on honoring those who served. --Avoid political statements or divisive rhetoric. Memorial Day transcends politics; it's about unity and gratitude. --Don't forget the families of the fallen. Acknowledge their loss and the ongoing impact of their loved one's sacrifice. Be brave enough to teach the history they are trying to erase!: On June 22, 1944, President Franklin Roosevelt signed the Servicemen’s Readjustment Act (USA), known as the GI Bill, to provide financial aid to veterans returning from World War II. The benefits included access to housing, small business loans, employment, and education. While the GI Bill was federal legislation, it was administered by the states, where Jim Crow laws and practices severely limited equal access to the benefits. Here are some questions to consider regarding the GI Bill: Were the benefits for everyone? How many elected officials, opposed to government programs today, benefit from their family having been on the GI Bill? What is the impact of the GI Bill on racial disparities in the United States today?
