Multi-ligamentous knee reconstruction requires a lot of coordination pre op, intraop and postoperatively. As a surgeon who specializes in this it important to understand and be prepared in the OR. Posterior lateral corner injuries can be challenging especially when the anatomy is significantly distorted, in addition you must respect the peroneal nerve which is frequently scarred in. I present to you my surgical video of a recent posterior lateral corner reconstruction with an ACL repair. Patient has made an insane recovery (testimonial on its way!!). In this case you can see the biceps femoris was fully pulled off which made for a little added fun. To learn more check out my website link below. Orthopedic Specialists of Seattle we offer some of the most complex sports care in the Seattle area and beyond. Orthopedic surgeon Charlie DeCook MD makes an amazing claim here: "The most effective teams don't verbally communicate at all." He's talking, of course, about the picture-perfect, seamless workflow that's possible in the OR. With a dialed-in staff, "You don't have to say a word about the next step." It’s what many of us crave and find so elusive in our IT-intensive workplaces: Csíkszentmihályi’s sense of #flow, which includes (among other features): • Complete concentration on the task. • Actions and awareness are merged, losing self-conscious rumination. • A feeling of control over the task. And, with limited duration, it’s a reality in the OR. “When I'm scrubbed in the case the patient's draped and you give me—the instant you put that scope in my hand,” says nicholas colyvas MD, FAAOS (orthopedics, UCSF), in a recent interview. “This sort of calming feeling comes along. Okay: I'm in control. This piece of equipment that I have in my hands is an extension of me.” And the cameras and surgical monitors these days are amazing—except for one thing. Its power cord and light cable still tether the camera—and, by extension, the surgeon—to the surgical tower. When the cord and cable get tangled up in the sterile field, the surgeon can’t help but take their eyes off the monitor. And these interruptions often disrupt flow. There’s a new camera, though, that’s designed for maximum flow in the OR: ArthroFree. Its wireless connectivity to the surgical tower makes it a mobile communication device, basically.
