This economic downturn was one of the best things that happened to us. Our company this year has about the same number of people as last year, but we've grown (revenue) by approximately another 50%. The frenzy of 2021-2022 had us all running around like crazy trying to hire for what seemed to be an ocean of upcoming projects. In this frenzy, we were inefficient as a company, we didn't know who was responsible for what, and we were sometimes reckless with resources. When the ocean dried out, we got time to focus on being better. One thing we did this year, was that we took our "bench management" very seriously. We created clear steps for people who came onto the bench. One of the good things about Zendev is that we have internal projects, where people often can contribute even when we don't have consulting work. What we've learned about "internal" projects over the years, is that you can't do them half-heartedly. Either do it properly or don't do it at all. What we've also learned is that if you are going to be on "the bench" for a few weeks to a month, then to be able to contribute to an internal project, you need great on-boarding and off-boarding. This is both technical, but also a matter of updated documentation on projects. This whole experience with ZenDev for the past seven years has been like living on a sine-wave, sometimes you're up, sometimes you're down, but you always feel alive. Today, I welcomed another new starter to my dream team. This evening, I've been reflecting on what we have and why I love our team so much. We're not just colleagues, we're a support system. As much as we love what we do, sometimes our projects can feel overwhelming. But in our team, we're never alone. We lift each other up, offer an ear, and share the load when someone's feeling the pressure. One person's challenge is the team's challenge. We approach them as a united front, leveraging each other's strengths to find the right solution. We aim for psychological safety. We feel comfortable expressing ideas and concerns, and admitting to mistakes, knowing we'll be heard and supported, not judged. This means we can trust each other, learn from each other and grow together. We prioritise open communication and ensuring everyone feels heard and valued. We also go beyond the work to build connections. Whether a lunchtime walk to buy street food, bongos bingo for a leaving do, a Monday pub lunch to pick us up, or volunteering together. We create space to bond and have fun together, getting to know who we are behind the job title. Real life begins at 5 o'clock. But we do spend a lot of our lives in the workplace. I really do believe that good relationships and a supportive team of cheerleaders are so important for happiness, wellbeing and ultimately productiveness. Hello there! It's been a while since I posted and now I have a 5-minute break to share what has been happening. I led an onboarding process with our newcomers BDMs! Here I can imagine 2 questions that are easy to answer: Why is a Digital Marketing senior and not a mentor doing that? -As a proactive guy I work well if I'm familiar with and have a productive influence on what is happening in the Development team to have more than superficial knowledge on the product. Also, it's always good to know how leads I'm bringing doing in our pipeline:) Why do you need it? -I NEED to be sure that company is growing in micro- and macro- manner 'cause this means that I will grow too:) Now 5-minute break has ended and I'm going back to my analytical work to evaluate how much profit we can bring to each partner we work with. NDA won't let me say more so If you're an Operator or a Platform - get Mascot Games and think no more:) Every person in a company works like that! PS Ty for the event at the final day of our Networking and Onboarding trip last week. We worked hard and rested as hard as we worked! I need vacation after it but analytics first! See ya!

It's been a year...and that's only going by what's already happened so far! It's been a big one for me, not only because it's been a big one for everyone, or even because it has involved a lot of 'grown up' stuff, but because I said yes to so much! Scary opportunities, fun opportunities, expensive opportunities and both work and non-work opportunities! ✅ Here are a few eventful or challenging pieces of work I said yes to: 🌊 Lending a hand to AEM for a (very) short but exciting time. 🛫 Travelling internationally with friends on a multi-city trip we'd planned since 2019... 🏘 Finally buying my apartment...and furnishing it and moving in. 👋🏻 Lifting the profile of one of our most maligned employee engagement channels by activating it with fun and elevating the words of those who participate. (Yes, this is my child Viva Engage.) ✍🏻 Planning, writing and executing multiple low/no cost communications plans for challenging topics that ranged from encouraging employees to show their appreciation of each other 😍, unpacking the meaning of Matariki and re-aligning conceptualisations of mental health with a closer understanding of the maramataka and te taiao to tackling realistic approaches to financial wellbeing and summer self-care. 👩🏻🔬 Kickstarting a super intense co-design process to identify priorities for a staff network. (Shout out to my governance committee partner in crime Lisa Whyte.) 👩🏻🎓 Signing up for (another) post graduate diploma... 🎉 Committing to another big trip with friends for next year! Note that many of these were nothing to do with work. Some of them were just for me!!! ❎ I also said no to more than a few opportunities or pieces of work 🌊 I couldn't stay on to provide further support for AEM 🙄 I sure didn't keep up my LinkedIn posting... 💻 Some of my writing groups are on break because of me - both work and personal. :( 📅 The many many many many many meetings that I could not make it to... 🏕 I had to bin the idea of a trip next February I'd love to take... Some of these were really tough to say no to. Sometimes it was tough because I felt guilty saying no, or because they would have been really fun, or because they would probably have been good for me. But I made these decisions after considering personal and family circumstances. I really do think you should say yes as MUCH AS POSSIBLE, even when it's scary stuff - but convincing yourself it's okay to say no, even when you know without a doubt it's the right thing to do, can be really hard. Sometimes people around you won't be able to imagine why you would ever say no to [INSERT IMPORTANT THING HERE], but the reality is that there is truly not enough time (or money!) in the world to do it all and stay sane, especially when you need to keep other people around you sane too! So if it helps, this is me telling you....it's okay to say no sometimes. 🙅🏻♀️ And you should book a day (or a week!) off! 😎
