Today, on World Abortion Day, we recognize that access to safe and legal abortion is a fundamental human right. Women across the world deserve the right to make informed choices about their own bodies, health, and future without fear or stigma. Access to safe abortion is essential not only for women’s autonomy but also for public health, gender equality, and human dignity. It’s important to stand in solidarity with the women and healthcare providers who face barriers, restrictions, and even threats for advocating or accessing this critical healthcare service. We must continue to push for: • Legal frameworks that ensure safe and accessible abortion for all women. • Comprehensive reproductive health services that are free from discrimination. • Support systems that respect women’s choices and empower them to make the best decisions for their lives. Reproductive rights are human rights, and a world where every woman can access safe abortion care is a world that truly values equality and justice. #WorldAbortionDay #ReproductiveRights #WomensRights #HealthcareForAll #GenderEquality

Abortion is healthcare and should be regulated by medical best practice and clinical evidence, not criminalised based on laws from two centuries ago. Abortion has not been decriminalised in Britain. The Abortion Act 1967 made abortion legal under specific circumstances. However, if these conditions are not met, ending a pregnancy can result in prosecution, under a law set in 1861. It is indefensible that our reproductive rights in 2024 are still governed by a Victorian law, passed before women even had the vote. Not only has gender equality changed since 1861 but medical care itself is also very different. Today, abortion is a routine healthcare procedure and can even be undertaken in the privacy and comfort of the home, thanks to carefully regulated telemedicine services. Soon, MPs will have the opportunity to vote on an amendment to the Criminal Justice Bill - tabled by Diana Johnson MP - which would stop anyone facing prosecution for ending their own pregnancy in England and Wales. Depriving reproductive rights to human beings is costing lives, just like we said it would. Are the brands you're supporting doing something about this? Is your own business or employer? It's time we start voting with our wallets and move our money into places that value human life and the basic right of body autonomy. Follow the companies who signed the Don't Ban Equality pledge to see who is doing the work (link in comment). #ReproductiveJustice #ReproHealth

Empowering Marginalized Voices: The NT-DNT Fight for Safe Abortion and SRHR Rights For centuries, Nomadic and Denotified Tribes (NT-DNT) have battled invisibility, exclusion, and discrimination. Yet, the fundamental rights to safe healthcare, especially Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR), have remained largely out of reach for these communities. As we reflect on International Safe Abortion Day, it’s critical to highlight how women from these communities continue to fight for autonomy over their bodies. Through the 'Sharir Sanvaad' Campaign, NT-DNT women are stepping forward, raising their voices to demand dignified, accessible, and rights-based SRHR services. They are part of a growing movement, joining hands with over 500 community women, health workers, and stakeholders to break the silence around issues like safe abortion, contraception, and reproductive health. Women from NT-DNT communities are leading the charge, ensuring that the stigma around abortion and reproductive health no longer silences their stories. This movement is about more than just healthcare—it’s about restoring dignity and justice. By recognizing NT-DNT women’s rights to safe, accessible healthcare, we are pushing back against a long history of marginalization As we champion safe abortion and SRHR rights for all, let’s remember the courage of NT-DNT women, who are not only advocating for themselves but also creating a ripple effect for the future of their communities. Decades of research show that accurate portrayals of abortion in TV shows can increase public knowledge and prompt action. In the post-Dobbs era, understanding how these storylines impact viewers is more important than ever. In our recent collaboration with ANSIRH at University of California, San Francisco we surveyed over 1,000 adults and found that viewers of shows with abortion storylines—such as A Million Little Things and Better Things—had greater knowledge about abortion safety and access compared to non-viewers. Those who watched Station 19 were more likely to take action in support of abortion rights. Viewers of these series showed increased knowledge about abortion and were more likely to engage in actions supporting reproductive rights. Accurate TV portrayals can have a real-world impact. https://lnkd.in/gZSsxahN #StoriesMatter #RepresentationMatters

Supporting Safe Abortion: MTP Act 1971 we should think about the safe abortions rights under Medical Termination of Pregnancy act 1971. Reproductive health is not only a matter of public health but also women’s rights; therefore access to safe and legal abortion is very important for gender equality. MTP act can be considered as an opportunity for females to choose what they want with regards their bodies’ safety during pregnancy periods while being helped by healthcare professionals who are well informed about this issue. Today let us recommit ourselves towards safeguarding these achievements and working hard on them so that even more people can benefit from comprehensive care services like family planning which includes accessible methods such as abortions without fear or prejudice attached to it because everyone deserves equal opportunities in life regardless of their sex organs. We still have a long way to go when it comes to ensuring that all individuals have easy entry into safe abortion services; thus there is need for continuous sensitization campaigns aimed at dismantling existing barriers against this right which belong to every person since one has autonomy over his/her own destiny including health decisions too. #SafeAbortion #MTPAct1971 #ReproductiveRights #PublicHealth #GenderEquality

Millions of people across the U.S. now live in a state with a partial or total abortion ban. At the same time, 35% of transgender youth find themselves in a state with laws banning gender-affirming care. The Network for Public Health Law has identified at least 13 laws across 10 states and the District of Columbia that seek to protect access to reproductive health care as well as gender-affirming care in a single legislative act. A new Network resource examines these laws that couple transgender rights with reproductive rights to advance access to both. #reproductivehealth #reproductiverights #genderaffirmingcare

“Abortion Access is Every Business’ Business.” 👆 👆 👆Hell yeah it is! I’m joining the chorus of support for the Don’t Ban Equality billboard unveiled today in NYC! It’s a super cool, super important campaign highlighting companies that are proactive about how seriously they take abortion rights. It’s also a great springboard for two issues on my mind: 1. We need more folks and more businesses to take a PUBLIC stance on abortion rights! #DontBanEquality is a great way to show that support, so please encourage your employers and colleagues to act today on social media and—importantly—to remain steadfast and ready to be outspoken supporters of abortion rights in the long-term. Head to dontbanequality.com and ask your company to join this impressive list of companies and community. 2. All companies need to take an honest look at their policies around reproductive and maternal health—and be willing to adapt them! One easy way they can do that is to utilize our just-launched Reproductive and Maternal Health (RMH) Compass on rmhcompass.org. This awesome tool makes it easy for your HR department to take a survey and see where your company stands on repro and maternal health benefits. Then, they'll be provided with benchmarking reports and resources to help the company improve. Every employee deserves access to the RMH benefits they need—this tool will help your employer ensure they do! I hope these issues go straight from my mind to your to-do list! Please share about Don’t Ban Equality TODAY. And please encourage your company’s Human Resources department to take the RMH survey to see where it stands on reproductive and maternal health benefits. Abortion access really is every business’ business. YOU may just be the key to ensuring your company is doing its part.
