A study conducted by AHRQ's Effective Health Care (EHC) Program and published in JAMA concludes that naltrexone and acamprosate can help treat alcohol use disorder (AUD). While both are effective options, naltrexone requires only one pill per day, making it an accessible option that patients are likely to adhere to. Clinicians should engage patients in shared decision making (SDM) when determining the best treatment for AUD. #BetterCare https://bit.ly/3tYrQnU

Dr. Simarta Brennan-Prescod, a physician, patient, and advocate, shares her unique perspective on living with multiple sclerosis (MS). 🧠 MS is an autoimmune disease, a battle where the body fails to recognize itself and instead, wages war on the nervous system. It's a chameleon of a condition, presenting differently in every individual, making it a challenge to diagnose. 🕵️♀️ Imagine seeing a broken bone. You'd identify it and seek help. But with MS, the journey to diagnosis is often long and winding, with many detours along the way. 🏥 Dr. Brennan-Prescod's experience is threefold. She's not just a physician treating patients, but also a patient herself, and an advocate for others navigating the healthcare system. Her journey with MS is a testament to her resilience and a reminder that every experience, every perspective, adds a layer to our understanding of this complex disease. 🎗️ Remember, no two people with MS look alike. Each journey is unique, and each story adds to the collective narrative. Let's continue to raise awareness and break stereotypes. Repost this if it helped you better understand the complexities of living with multiple sclerosis. We love this resource from HealthCentral Corporation! Inequities in the healthcare system have historically made it difficult for BIPOC individuals to receive the care they deserve, so navigating a diagnosis like MS can be overwhelming. 📌 Bookmark this for flare management guidance and more! https://lnkd.in/gzTg2CQb #msawarenessmonth #msawareness #multiplesclerosis #autoimmunedisease #MS #bipoc #healthequity

Many patients delay seeking diagnosis due to a lack of awareness, and even after diagnosis, many do not adhere to their treatment regimens for various other reasons. This nonadherence can affect quality and length of life, health outcomes, and healthcare costs. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), a global mortality rate of 125,000 is attributed to nonadherence. Nonadherence is a multifaceted issue influenced by numerous factors, including socioeconomic status, health literacy, mental health, and the complexity of treatment regimens. Using our scientific approach, we identify the specific needs of each patient and provide them with tailored Patient Support Programs (PSPs). By creating an integrated ecosystem of care and treatment, we ensure that the patients in the access programs we manage receive 360° support, helping them overcome challenges and cope with their disease during their treatment journey.
